Elliott Gilardi named NWCC offensive player of the year

Lehman Catholic senior quarterback Elliott Gilardi was named the Northwest Central Conference offensive player of the year earlier this week, while several other Lehman and Riverside players earned all-conference honors.

The NWCC released its all-star teams on Monday, and Gilardi headlined the offensive team. Gilardi, a three-year starter, threw for 1,443 yards and 13 touchdowns in regular season with four interceptions and also ran for 734 yards and 10 TDs.

Lehman senior receiver Bradly Haynes and senior kicker Michael Denning were also named first team along with Gilardi, as were senior defensive linemen Logan Bunker and Ethan Knapke, junior defensive back Drew Barhorst and sophomore defensive back Brendan O’Leary.

Haynes led Lehman in regular season with 36 receptions for 509 yards and four touchdowns and Denning made 38-of-39 extra points and 8-of-12 field goals.

Bunker was tied for first on the team with three sacks and had 33 tackles, while Knapke had two sacks and 43 tackles. Barhorst had two interceptions and 79 tackles and O’Leary had four interceptions and 38 tackles.

Riverside senior running back Luke Roby was named first team as were three offensive lineman: senior center Mason Sacks, senior guard RJ McGowen and senior tackle Jonathan McGill. Senior defensive lineman Kayden Smith was also named first team, as was junior defensive back Levi Godwin.

Roby led the team with 998 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, while Godwin had 67 tackles and three interceptions and Smith had three sacks and 49 tackles.

Bunker was named second team as an offensive guard and Knapke was named second team as an offensive tackle.

McGowen was named second team as a defensive lineman. Riverside sophomore linebacker Ethan Burrows and senior linebacker Joel Cotterman were also named second team. Burrows had a team-high 83 tackles while Cotterman had 49.

Lehman’s Nick Largent, Tyler Sollmann and Mitchell Sollmann were named honorable mention, while Riverside’s Max Stephen, Ollie Jacobs and Conor Osborne were named honorable mention.

Lehman (7-3) finished first in the NWCC, while Riverside (6-4) tied for second with Marion Elgin. The Cavaliers and Pirates both earned playoff berths. Lehman will travel to Ansonia on Saturday for a first-round game, while Riverside will travel to Minster.

Lima Perry’s Nylan Cannon was named the league’s defensive player of the year, while Hardin Northern’s Mike Dennis was named coach of the year.
