Football: Anna, Minster players highlight all-MAC teams

Twenty-two area football players from Anna, Minster, New Bremen and Versailles were named all-Midwest Athletic Conference late last week. All-conference honors were based on regular season performances only.

Anna led area MAC squads with 10 selections. Senior receiver Jeffrey Richards, senior center Isaac Dodds, senior guard Brayden Farley, junior running back Riley Huelskamp and junior quarterback Bart Bixler were named first team.

Huelskamp finished second in the MAC in regular season with 1,287 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns. Bixler ran for 820 yards and 10 TDs and threw for 749 yards and nine touchdowns. Richards was fifth in the league with 406 receiving yards on 23 catches.

Dodds and Farley were named second team as defensive lineman, while Richards and senior Kam Steward were named second team as linebackers. Senior safety Brandon Shannon was also named second team.

Steward had 82 tackles while Richards had a league-high five interceptions. Shannon had three fumble recoveries.

Minster senior offensive lineman Cody Frericks and senior linebacker August Boehnlein were named first team. Senior defensive lineman Sam Schmiesing, senior cornerback Mike Ketner and junior running back Alex Schmitmeyer were named second team.

Schmitmeyer ran for 821 yards and 14 touchdowns and Ketner had five interceptions.

New Bremen senior defensive end Brandon Heitkamp and senior defensive lineman Jacob Rindler were named first team. Senior receiver Bryce Blickle, senior kicker Ryan Bertke and senior offensive lineman Ben Kuck were named second team.

Bertke made 18 extra points and five field goals, while Blickle ranked sixth in the conference with 398 receiving yards on 28 receptions.

Versailles defensive end Evan Hiestand was named first team on defense and second team on offense as an offensive lineman. Hiestand had 58 tackles and a MAC-best 10 sacks.
