ANNA — The Minster girls knocked Anna from the ranks of the unbeaten Tuesday night in non-league girls basketball action, beating the Lady Rockets 44-37.

The loss left Anna at 10-1 on the season heading into a game with Botkins Thursday.

Minster goes to 10-2 heading into a Midwest Athletic Conference game at Delphos St. John’s Thursday.

Anna led early but when Rosie Westerbeck hit a shot to give Minster a 17-16 lead with 1:30 left in the first qwuarter, it was a lead the Lady Wildcats would not relinquish.

Minster got a big three-pointer at the buzzer by Hayley Baumer to take a 23-18 lead at the half.

Anna got the first bucket of the third quarter, but Minster took off from there and built the lead to 32-20 at one point. The quarter ended with Sarah Bettinger hitting two free throws to cut the lead to 37-29 with eight minutes to play.

The final quarter was a little strange, with Minster seeming content to run the clock. The Lady Rockets were able to pull within two points with under two minutes to play at 39-37, but with :38 remaining, Westerbeck hit two free throws for Minster’s first points of the quarter and a four-point lead.

After a Minster steal, Westerbeck dropped in two more and Anna was unable to recover.

“Minster is a very good team and will be a tough matchup for a lot of teams,” said Anna coach Doug Martin. “I was proud of the kids for playing hard and at a high level.”
