Beatty first in Valley View meet

GERMANTOWN — Sidney High’s wrestling team competed in the Valley View Invitational over the weekend.

Jac Beatty at heavyweight led the Jackets, winning his weight class. He pinned in 27 seconds in his first match, and in 2:38 in the championship.

Javon Purk at 195 was second, losing in the championship 7-5 in overtime. He won in the semifinals on a 57-second pin.

Chris Cantrill at 126 finished third. He rode byes into the semifinals, where he lost on a fall in 2:20. In the match for third, he pinned in 2:40.

At 138, Allen Tangeman was also third. He won his first match in a major 14-1 decision before losing 10-1 in the semifinals. He then won the match for third with a 2-0 decision.

Will Wallace was fourth at 160 pounds, and Brad Blosser fourth at 170. Wallace had a 40-second pin and a fall in 1:22. Blosser had a 1:49 pin and won a 7-6 decision.

“Jac Beatty wrestled outstanding and pinned in the finals. The team is improving weekly,” said coach Clayton Westerbeck.

Sidney hosts Covington and West Milton Tuesday on Parent’s Night.
