Staff report

SIDNEY — The Sidney Yellow Jackets rolled to an easy win over the visiting Troy Trojans Friday night in Greater Western Ohio Conference North boys basketball action at the high school.

The Jackets built up a 27-10 margin at the half and won by 17 at 56-39.

The win puts Sidney at 2-2 in the North and 9-4 overall heading into a match at Lehman tonight. Troy drops to 1-3 and 4-8.

“We wanted to get them to play at our pace,” said Sidney coach Andy Slaughter. “We felt if we could do that, we could turn them over a little and get some easy buckets. I thought we played outstanding defense all night. When we play defense like that, we can be pretty good.”

The Jackets held the Trojans to just 10 points in the first half, including only three in the second quarter, for that 17-point bulge at the intermission.

Sidney got out of the blocks well thanks to Darryl McNeal, who had six of his eight points in the opening quarter, and Cameron Gallimore, who added five.

In the third quarter, the Jackets got eight from freshman Andre Gordon and outscored the Trojans 17-12 to take a 44-22 lead into the final period.

“We did a good job on the boards and didn’t allow them to get second chances,” said Slaughter. “I still wasn’t happy with our finishing. That’s something we have to get better at.”

Gallimore hit four more three-pointers and finished with 16, and Gordon added a dozen for the Jackets, who had 11 players in all break into the scoring column.
