RUSSIA — The Russia Raiders appeared to be in cruise control, leading Fort Loramie 26-11 at the half. But the Redskins came storming back in the final two periods, only to fall short in a 48-44 thriller in County boys basketball at Russia Friday night.

A loss would have been costly to the Raiders, who trail league-leading Jackson Center by one game. Russia is now 7-2 in the league and 13-3 overall. Loramie is 3-7 and 6-11.

“We were up 15 at the half, but in the second half, Loramie got the ball to their shooters and they hit some tough shots,” said Russia coach Spencer Cordonnier. “And they created for themselves. But we hit free throws in the fourth quarter.”

The lead was down to just one point in the final period, but the Raiders canned 8 for 11 from the line in the fourth quarter to protect that lead.

Cole Tebbe had 16 for Russia and Jake Gariety 10. Dillon Braun had 12 for the Redskins.

Russia hosts Versailles tonight. Anna is back in action Friday at home against Anna.
