Anna girls survives upset bid

ANNA — Anna had its hands full with Houston in County girls basketball Tuesday at home, but prevailed by a 33-27 score.

The win kept Anna in first at 10-1 in the standings and put the Lady Rockets 19-2 overall. Houston is 5-6 and 9-12.

Houston led by seven at the half, but Anna outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-2 in the third quarter.

Nicole Barhorst had 11 and Macey Huelskamp 10 for Anna. Jenna Winner had 11 and Macey Stang 10 for Houston.

Jackson 39, Russia 38

RUSSIA — Jackson Center’s Cassie Meyer hit two pressure-packed free throws with :05 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Lady Tigers a 39-38 thriller over Russia in County girls basketball on Tuesday.

The win put Jackson at 7-3 in the league and 13-6 overall. Russia is now 5-6 in the league and 11-10 on the season.

Jackson trailed 34-30 after three quarters but held Russia to just four points in the final period to come from behind.

Meyer had 12 to lead Jackson.

Fairlawn 57, Botkins 48

SIDNEY — Fairlawn outscored Botkins 20-10 in the opening quarter and that was the key in a 57-48 victory over the Lady Trojans in County play Tuesday.

The Lady Jets got their first County win with the verdict and finish league play 1-11. They are 5-16 overall.

Botkins is now 1-10 and 9-12.

Audrey Francis poured in 31 for Fairlawn, 21 of those in the second half.

Sarah Bergman had 14, Jenna Pitts 12 and Paige Lane 11 for Botkins.

HOUSTON — Houston took care of visiting Mississinawa Valley in non-league girls basketball Monday, 53-28.

The win moved the Lady Wildcats to 9-11 going into tonight’s game at Anna.

Macey Stang poured in 17 to lead the Lady Wildcats over Mississinawa.
