Sidney’s Knoop North Coach of the Year

The Sidney High boys bowling team rolled through Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division play with a perfect 10-0 record to capture the division crown, and that dominance was reflected in the GWOC All-North selections, announced recently.

Sidney had five bowlers named to the first two teams, and head coach Trent Knoop was named the North Coach of the Year. He not only led the Jackets to a perfect record in the North, but also a 15-3 overall mark.

First-team selections include senior Damon Huffman and sophomore Austin Simon.

Huffman averaged 197.1 for the Yellow Jackets this season, with a best two-game series of 465.

Simon actually led the Jackets this season with a 204.0 average. His best series was a 525.

Named to the second team were senior Jamie Wallis and juniors Josh Abbott and Matt Elliott.

Wallis averaged 202.3, second on the team, and had a high series of 494.

Abbott averaged 200.9 with a 430 series, and Elliott averaged 196.4 with a best series of 489.

Meanwhile, junior Heather Gold was named to the All-North second team.

The Lady Jackets finished 6-4 in the league and tied for third, and were 11-7 overall. Gold was the team leader with a 182.4 average, and a high series of 448.

Special Mention — Cullen Blinn, sophomore, Greenville; Austen Brush, junior, Vandalia; Mitch Havnar, senior, Piqua.

Athlete of the Year — Drew Sacks, Vandalia.

Coach of the Year — Trent Knoop, Sidney.
