SIDNEY — The Sidney High boys bowling team has advanced out of the sectional tournament to the Division 1 District as a result of action Wednesday at Poelking South Lanes in Dayton.
The top nine teams in the sectional advanced to the district next Thursday at Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek, where they will be trying to finish in the top five to earn a berth in the State Bowling Tournament.
The district bowling will begin at 9:45 a.m. BeaverVu is located at 1238 N. Fairfield Road in Beavercreek.
Sidney finished sixth in the sectional Wednesday, rolling a 2415 with regular games of 798, 851 and 766, and baker games of 133, 182, 195, 200, 216 and 147.
Sophomore Austin Simon led the Jackets, rolling a 556 series on a 202 and a pair of 177s.
Josh Abbott had a 537 on games of 140, 172 and 225. Matt Elliott rolled a 173 and Sean Martin 170.
Abbott, a junior, is looking to qualify for the state tournament for the second consecutive year. He bowled well last season at state, finishing sixth overall with a 628 series on games of 223, 195 and 210. That earned him second-team All-Ohio honors.
Centerville was first with 2806 followed by Wayne, Beavercreek, Fairmont, Springfield, Sidney, Miamisburg, Tecumseh and Fairborn as the district qualifiers from the 21-team field.
