SHS boys swim team makes districts

The Sidney HIgh boys swim team qualified in many events for the Southwest District swim meet to be held in Oxford at Miami University’s Nixon Natatorium Saturday.

The 200 and 400 free relay team of Logan Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Collin McClain and Chase VanTilburgh placed 13th in the 200 free relay and 20th in the 400 free relay at Districts. Both teams placed third at sectionals Friday night.

Collin McClain broke a 16-year-old school record in the 500 free by placing second at sectionals with a record and personal best time of 5:10.21. The record was held by Tatsu Osada in 2000 with a time of 5:11.53. McClain is seeded 30th in that event at districts.

VanTilburgh placed third in the 50 free at sectionals and is seeded 18th at districts. He placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke at sectionals and is seeded 30th.

At sectionals the 200 medley relay of Collin McClain, Logan Johnson, Caleb Johnson and Elliot Wilson placed fifth. VanTilburgh was third in the 50 free with Logan Johnson placing fifth, Elliot Wilson eighth and Caleb Johnson ninth. Wilson was 12th in the 100 free.

At sectionals points are scored through 16th place and the boys team placed fifth overall.

At the girls sectional, the 200 medley relay of Noemie Bootz, Kim Clausmier, Emily Guinther and Sarah Lewis placed eighth with their best time of the year.

Emily Wiesenmayer was 10th in the 50 free with Emili Aselage placing 11th. In the 100 free, Aselage was 10th and Wiesenmayer was 12th.

Emily Jones placed 12th in the 500 free with her personal best, dropping three seconds to a time of 8:06.14.

The 200 free relay team of Jenny Barnes, Sarah Lewis, Wiesenmayer and Aselage had their best time and placed sixth. The 400 free relay team of Barnes, Guinther, Wiesenmayer and Aselage also placed sixth with their best time of the year.

Other swimmers having best times during sectionals were Lanie Shoukri dropping six seconds in the 200 free, Noemie Bootz and Sarah Lewis in the 50 free, Sarah Lewis, Jenny Barnes and Emily Wiesenmayer in the 100 free and Kim Clausmier in the 100 breaststroke. The SHS girls finished seventh at sectionals.
