Monday roundup: Errors cost Anna in 11-6 district semifinal loss

EATON — Five errors and hot hitting by National Trail was too much for Anna to overcome in a Division III district semifinal on Monday. Though the Rockets’ outhit the Blazers, Anna committed five errors compared to two by National Trail and lost 11-6.

The No. 8 seed Blazers had eight hits and two errors while No. 3 Anna had 11 hits.

It was scoreless until the top of the third, when National Trail scored five runs on four hits, two walks and one error.

Anna scored one run in the bottom half and two in the fourth to pull within 5-3, but the Blazers added six runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to put it away before Anna narrowed the gap with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Carter Elliott was charged with the loss. He allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Tyler McClay was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and two runs for Anna while Brandon Shannon was 2 for 4 and Brayden Collier was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Jarred Siegle hit a double.

Anna finishes 17-9 overall.

Versailles 3, Greeneview 2

Zach Schlater hit a RBI single to left field on a fly ball in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Tigers to an extra-innings victory in a Div. III district semifinal on Monday in Brookville.

The No. 9 seed Tigers advance to face Dayton Christian in a district final on Wednesday at Springfield Kenton Ridge.

Versailles scored two runs on one hit and two errors in the bottom of the fourth but the Rams scored two runs on three hits in the sixth to tie it.

Neither team again scored until the ninth. Nathan Wagner started the inning by reaching on an error and moving to second on a passed ball, then Ethan Kremer hit a bunt single to move Wagner to third. Schlater then hit the single to left to score Wagner.

Greenview had 10 hits while the Tigers managed four but the Rams finished with four errors while Versailles committed two.

Conner VanSkyock picked up the win. He pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Zach Griesdorn and gave up three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Schlater was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. His other hit was a double in the fourth.

Minster 11, Patrick Henry 1

The Wildcats scored five runs in the first inning and cruised from there to a win in a nonconference game on Monday in Minster.

The Wildcats had 11 hits and one error while Patrick Henry managed one hit and committed one error.

Ethan Lehmkuhl picked up the win for Minster. He pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on one hit. He had eight strikeouts.

Adam Ketner was 2 for 2 while Jack Heitbrink was 2 for 3 and August Boehnlein and Trent Roetgerman were each 2 for 4.

New Bremen 7, Fort Recovery 3

The Cardinals scored two runs in each of the first two innings and led the rest of the way in a nonconference victory over Midwest Athletic Conference foe Fort Recovery on Monday in New Bremen.

The Cardinals had eight hits and committed two errors while Fort Recovery had one hit and committed two errors.

Ben Kuck earned the win on the mound. He pitched 4 2/3 innings and didn’t give up a hit while striking out six batters and walking one.

Zach Bertke was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and one run while Tyler Overman was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and two runs. Aaron Vonderhaar hit a double.
