Football roundup: Anna pulls away fast to 42-7 win over Versailles

VERSAILLES — Anna had no problems bouncing back from last week’s heartbreaking loss to Marion Local. The Rockets took a three-touchdown lead by halftime in a Midwest Athletic Conference game on Friday and didn’t allow a score until the final minutes in a 42-7 win over Versailles.

Jeffrey Richards caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Bart Bixler for Anna’s first score, and senior running back Riley Huelskamp added touchdown runs of 35 and 62 yards before halftime. Richards and Kamren Steward each caught TD passes from Bixler of about 32 yards in the second half and Grant Albers returned an interception 24 yards.

The Rockets (5-1, 3-1 MAC) had 381 yards of offense while Versailles had 157. Bixler completed 11-of-14 passes for 132 yards with three touchdowns and one interception and ran for 43 yards on six carries. Huelskamp gained 165 yards on 14 carries.

Steward caught three passes for 47 yards while Richards caught three passes for 42 yards. Albers led the team with six tackles and had one sack. Ben Kovacs also had an interception.

Anna will travel to Fort Recovery on Friday. Versailles (3-3, 2-2) will host Marion Local.

Fort Loramie 59, Bethel 0

The Redskins earned their second straight lopsided Cross County Conference victory and fifth consecutive overall victory by dominating Bethel on Friday in Fort Loramie. They took a 47-0 lead by halftime.

Fort Loramie (5-1, 4-0 CCC) will travel to Tri-Village on Friday.

Minster 36, Delphos St. John’s 6

The Wildcats scored the game’s first four touchdowns and had no problems earning their second consecutive win in a MAC game on Friday in Minster.

Jacob Niemeyer completed 16-of-21 passes for Minster for 186 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 37 yards on four carries. Alex Schmitmeyer ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

Trent Roetgerman led the squad with eight catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns while Brendan Barhorst caught five passes for 50 yards.

Andy Poeppelman led the squad with 5.5 tackles. Kody Richard had one interception and Colton Robbins had one sack.

The Wildcats had 416 yards of offense and held St. John’s to 145.

Niemeyer scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and then ran for a two-point conversion to give the squad an 8-0 lead. Schmitmeyer scored on a 4-yard run and Trent Roetgerman scored on a 2-yard reception in the second quarter to increase the lead to 22-0.

Roetgerman caught an 18-yard TD pass in the third quarter and Schmitmeyer scored on a 65-yard run.

Minster (5-1, 3-1 MAC) will host St. Henry on Friday.

Coldwater 42, New Bremen 16

New Bremen couldn’t keep up with Coldwater in a MAC loss on Friday in New Bremen.

Owen Gabel hit a 30-yard field goal to bring New Bremen within 7-3 in the second quarter, but Coldwater scored two TDs before halftime and added the first TD of the third quarter to pull away.

The Cavaliers had 452 yards of offense while New Bremen had 235. Mitchell Hays led the Cardinals with 159 rushing yards and one TD on 22 carries and completed 5-of-12 passes for 25 yards, including an 8-yard TD throw to Patrick wells in the fourth quarter.

New Bremen (4-2, 2-2 MAC) travels to Parkway on Friday.

Hardin Northern 28, Riverside 14

The Pirates couldn’t keep hold of a 14-7 halftime lead and lost a Northwest Central Conference game on Friday in De Graff.

Kale Long and Kaden Burk scored on touchdown runs in the first half to put Riverside ahead at halftime, but Frank McCoy scored on a pair of TD passes from Nevin Robson from about 34 yards out to give the Polar Bears a 21-14 lead in the fourth quarter, then Owen Wetherill added a 34-yard run late to ice it.

The Pirates outgained Hardin Northern 307 yards to 187. Long completed 8-of-20 passes for 138 yards and led the squad with 108 rushing yards on 16 carries.

Riverside (2-4, 1-3 NWCC) will travel to Waynesfield-Goshen on Friday.
