Volleyball: Lehman Catholic’s Lucia named NWCC player of the year

Lehman Catholic swept the Northwest Central Conference player and coach of the year honors, which were announced on Monday.

Lehman senior middle hitter Olivia Lucia was named the NWCC’s player of the year. She accumulated 223 kills, 240 digs, 102 total blocks and 56 aces in regular season.

First-year coach Carolyn Dammeyer was voted the NWCC’s coach of the year. Dammeyer, who previously coached at Delphos St. John’s and Celina among others, took the job earlier this year after the resignation of longtime Lehman coach Greg Snipes.

The Cavaliers (18-4) finished first in the NWCC with an 8-1 record, while Riverside (13-7) finished second with a 7-1 record.

Lehman’s Lauren McFarland and Riverside’s Lauryn Sanford and Allison Knight were named first team all-NWCC along with Lucia.

McFarland, a senior outside hitter, has accumulated 187 kills and a team-best 60 aces and 367 digs for the Cavaliers. Sanford, a junior right side hitter, has racked up 108 kills and 144 assists for Riverside while Knight, a junior libero, has a team-best 156 digs to her credit.

Lehman’s Abby Schutt and Reese Geise were named all-NWCC second team along with Riverside’s Sierra Snow.

Schutt, a senior middle hitter, ranks second for Lehman in digs (258) and blocks (64) and fourth in kills (109). Geise, a junior outside hitter, is second on the team with 223 kills. Snow, a junior setter, has a team-best 191 assists for the Pirates.

Lehman’s Abbi Haller and Heidi Schutt and Riverside’s Jenna Woods and Hailee Harshbarger were named honorable mention all-NWCC.

All-conference teams were determined by voting of the league’s coaches.

3 New Bremen, 1 Versailles player named first team all-MAC

Three New Bremen players and one Versailles player were named first team all-Midwest Athletic Conference. The conference announced its all-league teams on Tuesday.

New Bremen’s Claire Pape, Taylor Paul and Macy Puthoff were named first team along with Versailles’ Lindsey Winner.

Pape, a junior setter, has a team-best 688 assists for the Cardinals and is second in total blocks (58). Paul, a senior outside hitter, has amassed a team-best 209 kills and 68 aces. Puthoff, a senior middle hitter, has a team-best 75 total blocks to her credit and ranks second on the team in kills (189), aces (52) and digs (152).

Winner, a senior middle hitter, has a team-best 255 kills and 75 total blocks for Versailles.

New Bremen’s Josie Reinhart was named second team all-MAC, along with Minster’s Emily Stubbs and Versailles’ Caitlin McEldowney and Brooke Stonebraker.

Reinhart, a junior outside hitter, ranks third for New Bremen in kills (179), aces (51), and digs (127). Stubbs, a senior defensive specialist, has a team-best 327 digs for the Wildcats. McEldowney, a senior libero, leads the Tigers in digs (365) and aces (41). Stonebraker, a sophomore right side hitter, is second for Versailles in kills (167).

Minster’s Averi Wolf and Ivy Wolf, New Bremen’s Ashton Heitkamp and Diana Heitkamp and Versailles’ Emma George were named honorable mention all-MAC.

The Cardinals (21-1) tied for first place in the conference with St. Henry (20-2). Both squads had 8-1 league records.

New Bremen coach Diana Kramer shared MAC coach of the year honors with St. Henry’s Tricia Rosenbeck. Coldwater’s Lauren Gilliland was named the conference’s player of the year.

All-conference teams were determined by voting of the league’s coaches.
