County play began in softball Monday night, and it wasn’t pretty for three teams, the closest margin being 11 runs.

Highlighting the night’s action was longtime Houston coach Brent New getting his 300th career victory.

Houston 15, JC 4

HOUSTON — Houston wasted no time in taking control Monday, and went on to beat Jackson Center 15-4 in County girls softball play.

The victory gave New the 300th victory of his coaching career, all at Houston. He is in his 19th season as head coach.

“No one else has done more for the game of high school fast-pitch softball in Shelby County than Brent,” said Fort Loramie softball coach Brad Turner Monday night.

The Lady Wildcats scored four times in the first inning on their way to a rout of the Lady Tigers. They added two in the second and six more in the third, leading to the game ending after five on the 10-run rule.

Houston had 12 hits in the game, with Macey Stang getting three of them, one being a double.

Sarah Monnier had two doubles and drove in three, Micalah Hensley had two doubles, Jenna Jarrett belted a home run and Brittney Timmerman had a single, a double and three RBIs.

Abby Meyer singled and homered for Jackson Center, which is 0-2.
