Wednesday/Thursday roundup: New Bremen, Versailles boys advance in tourney

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen opened tournament play with a 64-46 win over Ada on its home court on Wednesday.

The Cardinals took control early with a 20-3 scoring advantage in the second quarter. Ada used a 16-10 scoring edge in the second to pull within 30-19 by halftime, but New Bremen secured the win with a 24-14 edge in the third.

David Homan scored 12 points for the Cardinals and had 12 rebounds. Reece Busse scored 12 points and had seven rebounds, Trevor Bergman scored 11 points and Nick Alig scored 10 points. Daniel Homan added eight points.

New Bremen shot 26 for 58 (45 percent) from the floor and had a 35-24 rebounding edge.

The No. 4 seed Cardinals (15-8) advanced to face No. 5 Marion Local in a Division IV sectional final on Friday in New Bremen.

Girls basketball

Minster 50, Fort Recovery 32

The Wildcats advanced to a Division III district final by beating the Indians on Thursday at Wapakoneta High School.

Ivy Wolf scored seven points in the first quarter to help Minster build a 14-7 lead. The Wildcats outscored Fort Recovery 17-6 in the second quarter to take a 31-13 halftime lead.

Wolf led Minster (23-1) with 18 points while Ella Mescher scored 14 and Janae Hoying scored nine.

Minster will face New Knoxville in a district final on Saturday in Wapakoneta.

Boys basketball

Versailles 55, Dayton Christian 46

The Tigers won a Div. III sectional final on Thursday at Northmont High School’s Thunderdome.

Versailles took a 13-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and followed with a 14-7 scoring edge in the second to take a 27-18 halftime lead. The Warriors pulled within 38-31 by the end of the third but the Tigers finished with a 17-15 edge in the fourth.

Connor Stonebraker led Versailles with 18 points while Eli McEldowney, Jared DeMange and Jaydon Litten each scored 10.

The No. 9 seed Tigers (10-14) advance to face No. 2 Preble Shawnee in a district semifinal on Saturday.
