Weekend roundup: Anna rallies in 4th, beats Meadowdale

CLAYTON — Anna advanced to its fourth straight district final thanks to a huge comeback on Saturday at Northmont High School’s Thunderdome.

Dayton Meadowdale rallied from a big early hole to tie it in the third quarter, but the Rockets ran away to a 96-85 victory in a Division III district semifinal.

The Lions tied it 57-57 in the third quarter, but Anna took a 61-59 lead before the end of the quarter and finished with a 35-26 scoring edge in the fourth.

Isaiah Masteller led Anna (20-5) with 46 points. He scored 21 points in the first half and followed with 10 in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth.

McKane Finkenbine added 26 points. Ben Kovacs scored 10 points and Jacob Robinson scored nine.

The Rockets advance to face Jamestown Greeneview in a district final on Friday at Vandalia-Butler’s Student Activity Center. The Rams (17-6) beat Cincinnati Purcell Marian 57-56 in a district semifinal.

Kalero Reaves led Meadowdale with 34 points.

Masteller scored 10 points in the first quarter and Finkenbine hit three 3-pointers to help Anna amass a 26-16 lead. The squad followed with a 17-16 scoring edge in the second to take an 11-point halftime lead.

Girls basketball

Minter 53, New Knoxville 33

Minster captured its sixth consecutive district title by blasting Midwest Athletic Conference rival New Knoxville in a Division IV district final on Saturday at Wapakoneta High School.

Ivy Wolf scored eight points in the first quarter to help Minster take a 14-6 lead. The squad used a 13-7 scoring edge in the second to take a 27-13 halftime lead, then outscored the Rangers 14-8 in the third to seal the win.

Wolf finished with 19 points. Janae Hoying and Brynn Oldiges each scored nine points.

The Wildcats (24-1) advance to face neighboring rival Fort Loramie in a regional semifinal on Thursday at Vandalia-Butler’s Student Activity Center. The Redskins won a regular-season matchup between the two 36-26.
