Basketball: Area players earn all-district recognition

The all-Southwest district teams were released by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association late in February, and over a dozen area players earned honors.

Selections were made by a media panel from the district based on regular-season performance only.

• Boys basketball

Division I

Sidney senior forward Avante Martin was named second team all-Southwest district in Div. I after averaging a double-double of 13.3 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. Martin, who is 6-foot-2, also averaged five assists, 2.6 steals and two blocks per game.

Sidney senior guard Cam Vordemark and junior guard Devin Taborn were named honorable mention.

Division III

Anna senior forward Ben Kovacs was named first team all-Southwest district in Div, III. He averaged 18.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Junior guard McKane Finkenbine was named third team. He averaged 16.6 points, 7.5 assists, 4.6 rebounds and three assists per game.

Senior guard Isaiah Masteller was named honorable mention, as were Versailles sophomore forward Connor Stonebraker and junior guard Jaydon Litten.

Anna coach Nate Barhorst was named coach of the year.

Division IV

Jackson Center senior forward Aidan Reichert was named first team all-Southwest district in Div. IV, as was Botkins junior forward Jacob Pleiman.

Reichert, who signed with Mercyhurst University in November, averaged 19.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Pleiman averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and two blocks per game.

Fort Loramie senior guard Caeleb Meyer was named second team. He averaged 12.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Botkins senior guard Jayden Priddy-Powell, Fairlawn senior guard Ashton Piper and Riverside senior guard John Zumberger were named third team.

Priddy-Powell averaged 15 points, four assists and four rebounds per game. Piper averaged 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Zumberger averaged 18 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Russia freshman guard Hayden Quinter, Fort Loramie sophomore guard Caleb Maurer and senior forward Grant Albers, Lehman Catholic senior guard Luke Frantz and junior forward Justin Chapman and Botkins sophomore forward Carter Pleiman were honorable mention selections.

• Girls basketball

Division I

Sidney sophomore guard Allie Stockton was named third team all-Southwest district in Div. I for the second consecutive season. She averaged 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two blocks per game.

Sidney sophomore guard Lexee Brewer and freshman guard Kiara Hudgins were named honorable mention.

Division III

Anna senior guard Ella Doseck was named first team all-Southwest district in Div. III. Doseck, who surpassed 1,000 career points in her final game, averaged 16.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

Versailles seniors Abby Stammen and Kate Griesdorn were named honorable mention.

Division IV

Fort Loramie senior forward Kenzie Hoelscher was named first team all-Southwest district in Div. IV. Hoelscher averaged 13.8 points, five rebounds, 3.5 steals and two assists per game.

Fort Loramie senior forward Dana Rose was named second team. Rose averaged 11.3 points, six rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.2 assists per game.

Botkins junior guard Carmen Heuker was named third team. Heuker averaged 15.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.6 steals per game.

Fort Loramie senior guard Caitlyn Gasson, Fairlawn junior guard Lonna Heath, Russia sophomore forward Kate Sherman, Riverside senior guard/forward Lauryn Sanford, Houston junior guard Megan Maier and Botkins junior guard Boston Paul were named honorable mention.

Wolf named Northwest district D-IV player of the year

The all-Northwest district teams were released by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association last week.

Selections were made by a media panel from the district based on regular-season performance only.

• Boys basketball

Division IV

Minster senior forward Justin Nixon was named first team all-Northwest district in Div. IV. Nixon averaged 15.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

New Bremen junior guard Reece Busse was named second team. Busse averaged 13.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Minster junior forward Johnny Nixon, senior guard Eric Schmidt and senior guard Bryan Falk were named honorable mention.

Minster coach Michael McClurg shared coach of the year honors with Columbus Grove’s Chris Sautter.

• Girls basketball

Division IV

Minster senior guard Ivy Wolf was one of three players named Div. IV player of the year in the Northwest district. Toledo Christian’s Madison Royal-Davis and New Washington Buckeye Central’s Claudia Pifher were also named players of the year.

Wolf averaged 20.3 points per game along with 5.2 assists and 3.9 steals per game. She became the program’s all-time leading scorer this season and finished with 1,685 career points.

Minster senior guard Janae Hoying was named second team. Hoying averaged 12 points and four steals per game.

New Bremen senior forward Elli Roetgerman was named third team. Roetgerman averaged 11.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Minster junior forward Ella Mescher was named honorable mention, as were New Bremen senior guard Madison Cordonnier and junior forward Kaylee Freund.

Minster coach Mike Wiss shared coach of the year honors with Woodmore’s Kyle Clair.
