Saturday roundup: Russia baseball wins St. Henry invite

ST. HENRY — Russia won the St. Henry Invitational on Saturday by beating the host Redskins 8-0 in the championship game.

Ross Fiessinger picked up the win on the mound for the Raiders (5-3). He pitched six innings and allowed four hits while striking out three batters. Xavier Philpot pitched the seventh and struck out three.

Grant Saunders and Jordan Meyer were each 2 for 3 while Drew Sherman was 2 for 4. Zane Shappie had 2 RBIs.

Russia coach Kevin Philpot surpassed 100 career wins on Saturday with the team’s two wins.

Russia 10, Marion Local 0

The Raiders earned a run-rule victory in their first game on Saturday in the St. Henry Invitational.

Grant Saunders picked up the win on the mound. He pitched four innings and gave up one hit and struck out eight batters.

Xavier Philpot, Drew Sherman and Zane Shappie were each 2 for 3. Shappie had 3 RBIs and Saunders had 2. Jared Poling hit a double.

Botkins 11, Ansonia 1

The Trojans won the first game of a doubleheader in six innings on Saturday in Botkins.

Parker Geis picked up the win on the mound for Botkins (5-3). He had three hits (including a double) and 6 RBIs at the plate. Tyler Free had three hits and Ethan Motter had two hits and 2 RBIs.

Botkins 3, Ansonia 1

The Trojans won the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday in Botkins.

Carson Motter pitched a complete game and allowed four hits. He batted in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly.

Adam Hall had two hits.

Fort Loramie 13, Greenville 0

The Redskins earned a run-rule victory on Saturday in Minster.

Jake Sanders, Derek Meyer and Clint Hilgefort were each 2 for 2. Meyer and Sanders each had 2 RBIs. Evan Eilerman was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Mack Fortman was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Devin Ratermann hit a home run and Grant Albers hit a double and had 4 RBIs. Ty Ruhenkamp was 1 for 2 with a double.

Fortman picked up the win on the mound for Fort Loramie (6-2). He pitched five innings and allowed four hits. He struck out five batters and walked two.

Newton 4, Jackson Center 3

Newton scored two runs in the sixth to take a lead, and the Tigers couldn’t rally in the seventh in a nonconference loss on Saturday in Pleasant Hill.

Nolan Fark hit a one-run double with two outs in the seventh to cut the gap to one, but Josey Liesner hit a fly out to end the game.

Eli Butcher was charged with the loss for Jackson Center (4-5). He gave up two earned runs on three hits in six innings and struck out six batters while walking one.

Fark, Trevor Sosby and Carson Regula were each 2 for 4. Fark had 2 RBIs and hit one double, while Regula and Jacob Vetter each hit one double.

Jackson Center committed four errors and the Indians committed three.

Greenville 5, Minster 0

The Wildcats lost a nonconference game on Saturday in Minster.

Johnny Nixon was charged with the loss for Minster (3-3). He gave up five hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings and struck out seven batters.

Versailles 10, St. Marys 4

The Tigers won the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday in St. Marys.

Adam Kremer picked up the win. He pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits and one walk. He struck out three batters.

Eli McEldowney was 2 for 5. Jake Carman hit one double.

Versailles 14, St. Marys 4

The Tigers won the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday in St. Marys.

Landon Henry picked up the win. He gave up one earned run on four hits and three walks in five innings and struck out six batters.

Noah McEldowney was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs while Jacob Treon was 1 for 2 with a walk and 2 RBIs. Carson Bey, Adam Kremer and Jake Carman were each 1 for 1 with a double. McEldowney hit one double.

Bellefontaine 3, Sidney 0

The Yellow Jackets lost a nonconference game on Saturday in Sidney.

Lauren Barker was charged with the loss for the Yellow Jackets (6-3). She pitched four innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits. She had six strikeouts.

Hailey Richardson was 2 for 3 at the plate.

Russia 14, Covington 4

The Raiders scored 11 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to earn a run-rule victory on Saturday in Russia.

Leadoff hitter Simone Puthoff was 5 for 5 with 2 RBIs while Makenna Hoying was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Kendall Monnin was 2 for 4. Hoying hit a home run while Puthoff, Monnin and Reese Goubeaux each hit one double.

Hoying picked up the win in the circle for Russia (7-1). She pitched a complete game and gave up three earned runs on four hits and two walks. She struck out four batters.

New Bremen 8, Anna 6

The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth after Anna had scored three to tie it in the top half and held on to win a nonconference game on Saturday in New Bremen.

Kyla Stachler was 3 for 3 for New Bremen (3-7) while Emma Krieg was 2 for 3 and Alayna Ross was 2 for 4. Stachler, Hays, Ross, Katie Howell and Callie Wells each hit one double. Ella Pape, Howell and Wells were each 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs.

Hays picked up the win in the circle. She pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up four earned runs on three hits and three walks. She struck out seven batters.

Bree Metzler was charged with the loss for Anna (6-2). She pitched a complete game and gave up seven earned runs on 12 hits and two walks. She struck out six.

Taylor Poeppelman was 2 for 4.

Versailles 21, Fort Loramie 3

The Tigers scored 14 runs in the third inning and won by run rule in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday in Fort Loramie.

Lauren Monnin was 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs while Keri Dirksen was 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs. Natalie Prenger and Colleen Hiestand were each 3 for 4, Tara Fritscher and Elise George were each 2 for 3 and Jenna Dirksen was 2 for 4. Fritscher hit one double.

Monnin picked up the win in the circle for Versailles (5-3). She gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks in five innings and had three strikeouts.

Lauren Bergman was charged with the loss for Fort Loramie (10-3). She gave up 10 earned runs on 10 hits and two walks in two innings.

Aubrey Baker was 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs for the Redskins while Clara Gephart was 2 for 3. Baker hit one home run and one double and Gephart hit one double.

Fort Loramie 11, Versailles 1

The Redskins beat Versailles in five innings in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday in Fort Loramie.

Jaden Rose was 3 for 3, Ava Turner and Clara Gephart were each 3 for 4 and Aubrey Baker, Aubrey Turner and Lorissa Hoying were each 2 for 3.

Baker hit two home runs and had 3 RBIs. Gephart hit two doubles while Ava Turner, Rose and Ella Hoelscher each hit one. Gephart and Rose each had 2 RBIs.

Kate Ruhenkamp picked up the win in the circle. She pitched a complete game and gave up three hits and struck out eight batters.

Colleen Hiestand was charged with the loss. She gave up three earned runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings.

The Jets lost in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday on their home field.

Alayna VanHorn was charged with the loss for Fairlawn (0-10). She gave up one earned run on 13 hits and three walks in five innings. She struck out four batters.

VanHorn was 2 for 3 at the plate with two doubles.

Ridgemont 16, Fairlawn 5

The Jets lost in five innings in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday on their home field.

Alayna VanHorn was charged with the loss. She gave up five earned runs on 11 hits in one inning.

The Pirates lost the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday in St. Paris.

Jenna Woods was charged with the loss for Riverside (4-6). She gave up one earned run on two hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings.

Jade Copas was 2 for 4 at the plate. Amerra Huston hit one double.

Graham 11, Riverside 4

The Pirates lost the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday in St. Paris.

Jenna Woods was charged with the loss. She pitched two innings and gave up three hits. Graham accumulated five unearned runs when she was in the circle.

Woods and Malaina Jenkins were each 2 for 3 at the plate while Jade Copas was 2 for 4.
