Tuesday roundup: Fort Loramie volleyball beats Botkins

BOTKINS — Fort Loramie’s volleyball team earned a 25-12, 25-16, 25-16 victory over Botkins in a Shelby County Athletic League match on Tuesday.

Ava Sholtis led the Redskins (7-2, 4-0 SCAL) with 15 kills while Summer Hoying, Katrina Berning and Skyler Albers each had five. Colleen Brandewie had 29 assists and three aces, and Sholtis and Riley Heitkamp each had three aces. Heitkamp led the squad with 10 digs.

The Trojans dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in SCAL play with the loss.

Troy 3, Sidney 0

Sidney lost a Miami Valley League crossover match 25-9, 25-11, 25-12 on Tuesday in Troy to drop to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in MVL play.

No statistics were reported.

Jackson Center 3, Fairlawn 0

The Tigers won an SCAL match 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 on Tuesday in Jackson Center.

Elena Platfoot led Jackson Center (5-2, 3-1) with nine kills while Shia Akers, Kieran Yarkosky and McKinley Reichert each had eight kills. Morgan Kipker had 20 assists and Gabrielle Woolley had 16 assists. Ava Winner had 12 digs and Sarah Clark had 11 digs.

Jessie Abke led Fairlawn (6-2, 2-1) with 10 kills while Lonna Heath had nine. Jessie Abke had 17 digs, Heath had 15 and Addison Swearingen had 11. Taylor Lessing had 26 assists.

Anna 3, Houston 2

The Rockets won an SCAL match 20-25, 25-6, 26-28, 25-17, 15-8 on Tuesday in Anna.

Liz Staudter led Anna (3-5, 2-1) with 14 kills while Cynthia Davidson had 11, Mara Cathcart had eight and Molly Rioch had five. Brenna Cobb had 39 assists. Madison Jeffries had 28 digs, Staudter had 24, Cobb had 18 and Kaitlin Rickert had 16.

Grace Slade had seven blocks and five kills for Houston (3-5, 0-4). Megan Maier had 31 digs and surpassed 1,000 career digs.

Bethel 4, Lehman Catholic 1

The Cavaliers lost a Three Rivers Conference match 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 25-17 on Tuesday at Bethel.

Marissa Corner led the Cavaliers (2-7, 1-2) with seven kills while Taylor Geise had six. Corner had six blocks and Kate Stewart had five. Geise had a team-high 12 digs while Caroline Wesner had 11 and Kailee Rank had 10. Wesner had 14 assists and Megan Carlisle had 10.

Riverside 3, Troy Christian 0

The Pirates won a TRC match 27-25, 25-17, 26-24 on Tuesday in Troy.

Sasha Stotler led Riverside (4-3, 3-0 TRC) with 11 kills and three aces. Jenna Woods had 10 kills, two blocks and 16 digs. Jade Copas had five kills and nine digs. Alaina Snow led the team with 26 assists and had eight digs and Trinity Notestine had 11 digs.

New Bremen 3, St. Marys 2

The Cardinals won a nonconference match 25-22, 25-12, 15-25, 27-29, 15-10 on Tuesday in St. Marys to stay undefeated.

Mia Schmitmeyer had 16 kills while Olivia Heitkamp had 14 and Kaylee Freund had 13. Melina Schrader had nine aces and 32 assists and Abi Powers had 21 digs.

Sidney 3, Stebbins 3

The Yellow Jackets built a 3-1 lead but gave up two goals in the last 11 minutes to finish a Miami Valley League Valley Division match on Tuesday in Sidney with a tie.

Landon Davis scored Sidney’s first goal on a free kick, and Nick Fenton scored later in the first half to give the squad a 2-0 halftime lead. After Stebbins cut the gap to 2-1, Graham Van Tilburgh scored a goal on an assist from Christ Diomande to push the lead back to two goals.

Goalkeeper Jack Davidson had 13 saves for the Yellow Jackets (2-1-2, 1-1-1 MVL Valley).

Botkins 3, Kalida 2

The Trojans won a nonconference game on Tuesday in Botkins to improve to 4-0-2 overall.

Botkins 15, South Charleston Southeastern 0

Botkins crushed Southeastern in a home nonconference match on Tuesday.

Camdyn Paul set a program single-game record by scoring eight goals. DeeDee Pitts and Boston Paul each scored three and Carmen Heuker scored one.

Boston Paul had four assists, Pitts had three, Ellie Steinke and Camdyn Paul each had two and Heuker had one.

Goalkeeper Emma Pax had four saves for Botkins (4-2).

Botkins 156, Fairlawn 184

The Trojans won a Shelby County Athletic League match on Tuesday at Shelby Oaks Golf Club.

Jameson Meyer led Botkins with a 36. Jack Dietz shot 38 and Jaydon Wendel and JJ Meyer each shot 41.

Matt Mullen led Fairlawn with a 38. Seth Jones shot 47, Logan Francis shot 49 and Ethan Jones shot 50.

Fort Loramie 162, Houston 166

The Redskins picked up an SCAL victory in a match that was completed on Tuesday at Arrowhead Golf Club after having been postponed on Aug. 30.

Adam Ballas led Fort Loramie with a 35. Aiden Wehrman and Ethan Larger each shot 41 and Austin Pleiman shot 45.

Anna 164, Russia 169

The Rockets won an SCAL match on Tuesday at Shelby Oaks.

Bryce Cobb led Anna with a 39. Seth Hegemier shot 41 while Landon Cobb and Ethan Maurer each shot 42.

Xavier Phlipot led Russia with a 40. Felix Francis shot 41 and Ross Fiessinger, Braylon Cordonnier and Jude Counts each shot 44.

Jackson Center 180, Waynesfield-Goshen 256

The Tigers won a nonconference match on Tuesday at Shelby Oaks.

Nolan Fark led Jackson Center with a 42. Ryan Sailor shot 43, Blake Noble shot 46 and Reed Platfoot shot 49.

Riverside 3rd in tri-match

The Pirates finished third in a tri-meet with Indian Lake and Milton-Union on Tuesday at Cherokee Hills Golf Course. Indian Lake finished first with a 196, Milton-Union was second with a 208 and Riverside was third with a 218.

Jayden Burchett led Riverside with a 50. Brody Rhoads shot 54, Chase Davidson shot 56 and Jaxon Woods shot 57.

• Girls golf

Riverside 220, South Charleston Southeastern 220

Riverside tied Southeastern in a nonconference match on Tuesday at Cherokee Hills Golf Course.

Mia Stallard led the Pirates with a 47. Roz Estep shot 50, Malaina Jenkins shot 60 and Maddie Sanford shot 63.

• Girls tennis

Sidney 4, Stebbins 1

The Yellow Jackets won a Miami Valley League Valley Division match on Tuesday in Riverside.

Kara Mays won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles. Allison Fultz lost 7-5, 6-3 at second singles and Jenna Grieshop won 6-2, 6-2 at third singles.

Breanna Mullennix and Cierra Mullennix won 6-2, 6-4 at first doubles. Stebbins forfeited second doubles.

Lehman Catholic 3, Preble Shawnee 2

The Cavaliers won in their first match in 15 days on Tuesday in Sidney.

Taylor Reineke lost 6-2, 6-2 at first singles. Mary Lins lost 6-1, 6-2 at second singles and Lily Williams won 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 at third singles.

Annie Stiver and Macie Verdier won 6-4, 6-2 at first doubles and Emma Covault and Madi Gleason won 6-0, 6-3 at second doubles.

“It was really windy and we adjusted well to it,” Lehman coach Tim Ungericht said. “Lilly really adjusted well to it after a quick first set loss and came back strong to clinch the team win for us. She has come from behind to win three times to clinch team wins for us so far this season, and our doubles teams both played really well.”
