Tuesday basketball roundup: Sidney rallies, beats Xenia 54-49

SIDNEY — Sidney’s boys basketball team rallied in the second half and beat Xenia 54-48 in a Miami Valley League Valley Division game on Tuesday.

Xenia led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter and 25-19 at halftime. Sidney used a 16-10 scoring edge in the third to tie it 35-35, then outscored the Buccaneers 19-13 in the fourth to earn the win.

Sam Reynolds led Sidney (4-1, 4-1 MVL Valley) with 21 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Myles Vordemark scored 11 points and had eight rebounds and two assists and A’zon Steele scored 11 points and had seven rebounds and four steals.

The victory sets up an early-season MVL showdown on Friday when the Yellow Jackets travel to undefeated Troy. The Trojans (5-0, 5-0 MVL Miami) have an early lead in the MVL race over Sidney and Piqua, which each have one loss. (Tippecanoe started the season on Tuesday and is playing six games in a 10-day stretch, ending when it travels to Sidney on Dec. 23.)

Sidney shot 19 for 53 (35.8 percent) from the floor and had 36 rebounds and 11 steals.

Xenia dropped to 0-4 with the loss. (The Buccaneers had a big halftime lead over Piqua on Friday and couldn’t hold on, and trailed Troy by one point at halftime in a game last week before being outscored by 16 in the second half).

Anna 55, Houston 42

The Rockets won a Shelby County Athletic League game on Tuesday in Houston.

Mason Carey led Anna (4-1, 2-1 SCAL) with 22 points.

Luke Beaver led Houston (1-5, 1-2) with 22 points.

Botkins 69, Fairlawn 35

The Trojans won an SCAL game on Tuesday at Fairlawn.

Carter Pleiman led Botkins (2-2, 1-1) with 25 points while Jordan Herzog scored 12 and Brandt Boerger added eight.

Fairlawn dropped to 1-6 overall with the loss and 0-4 in SCAL play; no statistics were reported.

Lehman Catholic 50, Tipp City Bethel 35

The Cavaliers won a Three Rivers Conference game on Tuesday in Sidney.

Turney Lachey led Lehman (3-3, 1-2 TRC) with 16 points while Justin Chapman scored 14. Da’Ron Pride scored eight.

The Cavaliers had a 31-22 rebounding edge and made 18-of-26 foul shot attempts.

Troy Christian 66, Riverside 45

The Pirates lost a TRC game on Tuesday in De Graff.

Kaleb Schindelwolf led Riverside (3-2, 1-2 TRC) with 11 points while Ayden Clary scored eight points and had seven rebounds.

Ansonia 61, Fairlawn 51

The Jets lost a nonconference game on Tuesday in Ansonia.

Avery North led Fairlawn (1-7) with 18 points while Riley Eichelberger scored 11 and Darcy Maxson scored 11.
