FORT LORAMIE — Anna took a big step toward a County championship, edging Fort Loramie in a tight County battle Monday at Loramie, 5-4.

The Rockets go to 8-0 in league play and take a two-game lead over the Redskins, who are now 8-2.

Anna is now 15-1-1 overall and plays a big non-league game today against Lehman, which is 16-1. Anna is the top-ranked Division 3 team in the Miami Valley, and Lehman is No. 1 in D-4.

The Redskins are now 13-6.

Alex Brinkman worked the first four innings for the Rockets and struck out seven. He turned it over to Joey Cummings, who wound up getting the win.

Anna led 4-1 after scoring a run in the top of the fifth, but Loramie came back and plated three in the bottom of the inning to knot the score. But the Rockets managed a run in the sixth and that ended the scoring.

Zach White had an RBI double for Anna and Colin Wuebker scored two runs. Connor Rose had two of Fort Loramie’s three hits in the game.

Russia 14, Houston 2

HOUSTON — Russia broke open a tight game with three big innings in a row in a 14-2 victory over Houston in County play Monday night.

Russia goes to 11-8 on the year and Houston is now 11-10.

Russia led 3-1 after three innings, but put up three in the fourth, and four in both the fifth and sixth innings to turn it into a run-rule verdict.

Zach Sherman had a big day for the Raiders, with three doubles in four trips and two runs scored. Drew Sherman had a double and scored three times.

For Houston, Dylan Hensley had a double.

Greenville 5, Sidney 3

GREENVILLE — Sidney’s struggles continued in baseball Monday as the Yellow Jackets lost their eighth in a row, this one to Greenville by a 5-3 final.

The loss left the Jackets at 6-17 on the season.

The Jackets trailed 3-0 after five innings, but rallied for three in the top of the sixth to tie the game up. However, Greenville came back with two in the bottom of the sixth and that was enough.

For the game, Sidney had just one hit, that a single by Damien Duff, off Greenville pitcher Tyler Netzley. He struck out seven and walked four.

The two teams meet again today at Sidney.

JC 4, Fairlawn 2

JACKSON CENTER — Jackson Center notched its second win of the season, edging Fairlawn 4-2 in County baseball action Monday.

The Tigers are now 2-10 and Fairlawn drops to 0-16.

Brady Wildermuth was overpowering on the mound for the Tigers, striking out 10 and pitching a three-hitter.

Ethan Zorn provided the offense, with a single and a double. Kyle Noble had two singles for the Jets.

Lehman 12, Botkins 1

BOTKINS — Lehman upped its record on the year to 16-1 with a win over Botkins by a deceiving final score of 12-1 in action on Monday at Botkins.

The Cavaliers take that 16-1 mark to 15-1-1 Anna tonight in a battle of the two top-ranked teams in the Miami Valley in D-3 (Anna) and D-4.

Botkins, now even on the year at 9-9, trailed the Cavaliers just 5-1 after five innings, but Lehman exploded for seven in the top of the seventh to put it away.

Dylan Arnold led the Cavaliers’ 10-hit attack with a double and two singles in four trips. Nate Bosway and Owen Smith both doubled.

For Botkins, Luke Bergman was 2 for 4 and Todd Tschuor had a double.

Lehman went with its ace, Parker Riley, and he shut the Trojans down on four hits.

Riverside 10, W-G 0

DEGRAFF — The Riverside Pirates upped their overall record to 17-3 with a 10-0 blanking of Waynesfield-Goshen in Northwest Central Conference play Monday night.

The win also put the Pirates at 10-2 in the league and kept their slim hopes alive in the conference. They still trail league-leading Lehman by two games with two to play.

For the Pirates, Caleb Stevens and Trey Lane had two hits apiece. Lane and Tyler Sanford both had doubles, and Lane and Dakota Bollinger drove in three runs apiece, Bollinger without benefit of a hit.

Sanford went all five innings for the Pirates, striking out eight and allowing just one hit. He also walked just one.

Mississinawa 1, NB 0

UNION CITY — Mississinawa Valley pushed a run across in the bottom of the fourth and that proved to be the only one of the game in a 1-0 verdict over New Bremen in non-league play Monday at Mississinawa.

The Cardinals fall to 7-9 on the year.

Ben Schwieterman had two of New Bremen’s three hits.
