ST. PARIS — Anna junior Logan Konst showed he was ready to take on Division 2 competition this year in the pole vault after winning the D-3 state championship last season.
Konst and the Anna boys competed in the D-2 District Track Meet at Graham High School in St. Paris Thursday and among the finals held was the pole vault. Konst soared over the bar at 15 feet, 2 inches to not only take first place, but also set a new meet record, one that had stood since 2005.
Konst earned a spot in next week’s regional meet in Dayton, and his win Thursday was one of two for the Rockets out of four finals held for the boys.
Anna’s 3200 relay team of Dylan Berner, Bradley Axe, Lucas Huber and Joel Gaier finished first in 8:17.19, followed by the Versailles foursome of Trevor Noggle, Noah Pleiman, Brooks Blakeley and Joe Spitzer, who ran a 9:21.64.
Anna also had regional qualifiers in the long jump and discus. Blake Stephens placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 19-1.25, and teammate Nathan Osborne took fourth in the discus at 142-3, equalling his season’s best.
The performance of the Anna contingent gave the Rockets the lead after Thursday’s action. The meet will conclude on Saturday.
The Versailles girls 3200 relay team also qualified for the regional after finishing third Thursday. The team of Emily Langenkamp, Tori Schulze, Liz Watren and Madison Grilliot finished in 10:11.39.
Only the Anna boys moved up to D-2. The Anna girls remain in D-3.
