COLDWATER — Minster scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and Josh Nixon made it stand up for a 2-1 victory over Crestview in the Division 4 District semifinals Wednesday night at Coldwater.
The victory advanced the Wildcats at 18-9 to the district championship Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Coldwater against top-seeded Fort Recovery.
The Wildcats got a route-going effort from Nixon, who scattered six hits, with two strikeouts and two walks. Crestview pushed a run across in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1, and then forced Nixon to work out of a big jam in the seventh. Crestwiew got runners on the corners with one out, but Nixon got a strikeout and a ground out to preserve the lead and the victory.
Minster’s two-run fourth started with Jon Niemeyer getting a single, then moving up on an error and a balk. Alex Lehmkuhl then singled him in for a 1-0 lead. Ben Stubbs then put down a bunt and Crestview was not able to get an out.
Lehmkuhl and Stubbs were sacrifriced to second and third, and Jared Huelsman lifted a sacrifice fly plenty deep enough to score Lehmkuhl with what proved to be the winning run.
Minster got two hits from Lehmkuhl in outhitting the Knights 7-6.
