Staff report

After getting the first hit of his Major League career on Saturday night in Pitsburgh, Fort Loramie’s Jared Hoying and the rest of the Texas Rangers made the trip to Cleveland for a three-game series, which ended Wednesday night at Progressive Field.

The Rangers are on a hot streak, and they won the first two games of the series 9-2 Monday and 7-3 Tuesday.

With a lefty going for the Indians on Monday, Hoying was not in the lineup. But he was Tuesday night against Tribe ace Corey Kluber, and he made the most of it.

With a huge throng of hometown fans on hand from Fort Loramie, Hoying went 2 f0r 4, with a run scored and a run batted in.

Hoying was tearing up the Class AAA league while playing for Round Rock, Texas, and the Rangers took notice, calling him up to the big club back on May 23. He was in the starting lineup that night, making him the first Shelby County native to play in a Major League game.

Going into Wednesday night’s game, Hoying had played in seven games since being called up. He was 3 for 12 on the season for a .250 batting average, and two walks for a .357 on-base percentage.

He was expected to be in the starting lineup again Wednesday, with a righthander pitching for the Indians again.

The Rangers are 6-2 since Hoying was called up.
