Oaks Ladies note 50th anniversary

0

It was a special day Wednesday for the Shelby Oaks Ladies Golf League.

It was a day for celebration — the league is 50 years old this year.

There were 23 players and one guest on hand for the event, which featured a banquet and the regular round of golf.

In observance of the occasion, members wore retro decorated hats from 1966, the year the league was formed. And prizes were given for three categories.

The winners were Joyce Wick for the prettiest hat, Nettie Dunlap for the wackiest hat (see front page), and Lea Muhenkamp for the most creative hat.

It was “Wackly Wednesday” for play on the course, and partners were decided by a draw. The game winners were those who had the highest number of points collected by adding the handicap to the points earned in Calcutta play.

Tied for first were two teams, including Trish Hoying and Ann Engle, and Deb Goffena and Jeanne Thompson.

Third went to the team of Judy Doll and Linda Spangler, and fourth to the team of Karen Dickman and Gretchen Ehler.

There were also on-course prizes given for long putts.

Muhlenkamp won twice, and winning once each were Ehler, Pris Reier, Mary Lou Berning, Marcia Shaffer, Judy Doll and Rita Brinkman.
