Post 217 splits two games

Sidney Post 217 split two games in the Best of Ohio Tournament, which started Thursday.

Sidney lost to the Bluegrass Stars 9-3 before edging the Cincy Royals 8-7. The verdicts left Post 217 with a 23-13 record heading into Friday’s play.

Post 217 had nine hits against Bluegrass, including two singles each from Dakota Bollinger and Austin McLain. Jackson Hobbs added a double.

A Hobbs double and a single by Bollinger plated Sidney’s first run in the top of the second. Singles by Daniel Berning, Bollinger and Tyler Sanford plated a run in the fourth, and singledf by McLain and Drew Wehrman and a fielder’s choice producted the final run for Sidney.

In the second game, Sidney sprayed 17 hits around the diamond, with Cam Clark going 4 for 4 with a double, Wehrman going 3 for 4 with a double and two singles, Brett McEldowney going 3 for 4 with two doubles and a single, and Kyle Subler adding three singles.

Sidney took a 1-0 lead in the first on a double by Wehrman and singled by Clark and McEldowney.

Three more cross the plate in the third. Clark and McEldowney both doubled in the inning, Bollinger drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Subler and Wehrman both singled.

In the fourth, Post 217 struck for two more on a single by Clark, a double by McEldowney and singles by Hobbs and Berning.

Sidney added two more in the sixth on singles by Clark, McEldowney and Subler and another sacrifice fly by Bollinger.

“The Bluegrass Stars are out of Kentucky and are very good,” said Sidney coach Jim Koewler. “They hit the ball very well. The Royals were also good, but we were able to outhit them and hold on for the win.”

NOTE: Sidney announced that its scheduled doubleheader on July 9 at home against Fostoria has been canceled because Fostoria doesn’t have enough players.
