TROY — Lehman ran into a strong Troy Christian team and it made for a tough season opener for the Cavalier boys soccer team Monday night in a 6-0 loss.

The Cavaliers were under pressure from the start. Goalie Ryan Goettemoeller turned away nine shots in the first half, but two got through to give the Eagles the lead at the break.

Lehman started the second half strong, with freshman wing Ethan Potts just missing the far post on a sliding kick.

“We were fine up until the 20-minute mark of the second half,” said coach Tom Wiseman. “Troy Christian is a good team, easily the best we’ve seen all summer. They will go far this year.”

Goettemoeller turned away 16 shots for the Cavaliers, who managed eight shots on goal.

“We let some younger kids in late to get some minutes and we were just outmanned at the end,” said Wiseman. “Goettemoeller did what he could in goal.”

The Cavaliers are back in action Thursday at Allen East in non-league play before opening Western Ohio Soccer League play on Aug. 30 against Fairlawn.
