Sidney drops VB opener

TIPP CITY — The Sidney Lady Jacket volleyball team tried to come back in the third set, but came up short and wound up losing 3-0 to the newest member of the Greater Western Ohio Conference, Tipp City, in American North Division volleyball Tuesday night at Tipp.

The scores were 25-17, 25-18, 29-27.

Sidney, 0-1 on the season, gets back into action tonight at home against Troy, the defending North champion that went 24-0 during the regular season last year. The Lady Jackets will then travel to Minster for a tri-match with Minster and Graham on Saturday.

Amanda Thomas led Sidney with seven kills and Celena Taborn added five. Thomas also had four blocks.

Carrie Nuss and Alina Kindle both had two ace serves, and Nuss also had 19 assists.

The Sidney junior varsity lost 25-22, 25-22. Arielle Snider had four kills and Faith Bockrath two aces.

American North standings — Piqua 1-0 (3-0), Tipp City 1-0 (2-0), Troy 1-0 (1-0), Greenville 0-1 (0-1), Sidney 0-1 (0-1), Vandalia 0-1 (0-2).

Celina 3, Anna 0

CELINA — Anna went on the road for its season opener Tuesday night and lost 3-0 in a close match to the Celina Lady Bulldogs in non-league action.

The first two games went overtime, with Celina pulling out both 27-25, 28-26. The third game was 25-18.

Krista Gehret led Anna with 12 kills, Kennedey Glover added nine kills and Emma Meyer finished with eight.

Lexi Wells had 30 assists and eight digs, and Carly Becker had 11 digs and three aces.

The junior varsity lost in three 25-21, 18-25, 26-24.

The Lady Rockets are back in action Thursday in County play at Fort Loramie.

Minster 3, Loramie 0

MINSTER — Fort Loramie saw its record leveled at 2-2 after a 3-0 loss to Minster in non-league volleyball action Tuesday night.

The scores were 25-20, 25-16, 25-21.

The game was the season opener for Minster.

Leading the Lady Wildcats at the net was Jordyn Heitbrink, who finished with 18 kills. Rosie Westerbeck added nine, Paige Thobe had six and Carly Barhorst added five.

Hayley Baumer set them up for their kills, with 34 assists, and also had eight digs.

Paige Purdy led the defense with 17 digs, Westerbeck had 14, and Heitbrink 13. Westerbeck also had two ace serves, and Thobe five total blocks.

Loramie hosts Anna in County play Thursday. Minster is back in action Saturday at home, with Sidney and Graham coming to town.

Junior high

The Riverside 8th grade volleyball team beat Upper Scioto Valley Tuesday 25-23, 22-25, 25-21.

Macie Manahan’s serve was key as she finished with 11 aces. Lauryn Sanford had six aces, and Allison Knight added five aces.

Sanford had four kills and five assists, and Sierra Snow also had five assists.
