Versailles golfer gets hole-in-one

VERSAILLES — Griffen Riegle led Versailles to a dual match win over Fort Recovery in boys golf on Thursday, with a round he won’t soon forget.

Riegel was the medalist with a 1-over 36, a round that included a hole-in one. He aced the par-3 No. 9 hole at Stillwater Valley, and went on to lead the Tigers to a 160-184 victory in a Midwest Athletic Conference match.

Nicholas Litten Stonebraker added a 40, Kyle Cotner had a 341 and Jacob Watren shot a 43 for the Tigers. Chase Bruns led Recovery with a 41.

Redskins win tri

CELINA — Fort Loramie traveled to the Mercer Elks Friday and beat Marion Local 173-191.

Brad Goettemoeller was medalist with a 41, Connor Rose 42, Tanner Rosengarten 44 and Aaron Schwartz 46. Craig Eilerman added a 47.

For Marion, Derek Platfoot had a 45, Collin Fleck 47, Jordan Heitkamp 49 and Mitch Rethman 50.

Cavs win tri

SIDNEY — Lehman shot a 165 to win by a large margin over Fort Recovery and Botkins Friday at Shelby Oaks.

Lehman was led by Ryan Schmidt with a 39, good enough for medalist honors. Tyler Lachey had a 40, Cole Gilardi 42 and Sack Scott and Avery Pickrel 44.

For Botkins, Josh Miller had a 40 and Erik Greve 45.

Redskins top Trojans

MINSTER — Fort Loramie took on Botkins in a County boys match Thursday at Arrowhead and defeated the Trojans 175-224.

Josh Miller of Botkins was the medalist with a 39 and Erik Greve was next with a 51. After that was two 67s for the Trojans.

Brad Goettemoeller shot a 40 for the Redskins, Tanner Rosengarten 43, Aaron Schwartz 45 and Connor Rose and Craig Eilerman both shot 47.

Raiders edge Cavs

SIDNEY — Russia edged Lehman in action at Shelby Oaks Thursday, 175-178.

Jonah Counts led the Raiders with a 42, Jack Dapore and Dylan Cordonnier both shot 44 and Connor Monnin and Zach Sherman carded 45s.

Medalist for the match was Zack Scott of Lehman with a 41. Tyler Lachey shot a 44, Adam Vanderhorst 45, and Avery Pickrel and Ryan Schmidt both shot 48.

Minster falls in MAC

MINSTER — Minster lost in MAC boys action Thursday at Arrowhead, 177-194 to visiting Delphos St. John’s.

Jordan Brackman led the Wildcats with a 42 and Ben Stubbs added a 48. Brackman was the match medalist.

ME beats Russia

WEBSTER — The Miami East girls golf team defeated Russia 197-209 at Stillwater Valley Golf Course Thursday.

Haley Howard took medalist honors with a 47.

Russia was led by Maddie Borchers with a 49.

Rounding out the Lady Raiders top four were Kara Barlage 52, Alicia George 54 and Lizzie Adams 54.

Lady Tigers win

CELINA — Versailles won in girls golf action Thursday, defeating Fort Recovery 196-213 to go to 3-1 in dual matches and 1-1 in MAC play.

Maddie Covault shot a 46 and was the medalist, and Lauren Heitkamp added a 48. Jorja Pothast shot a 50 and Lauren Durham 52.

Trisha Thien led Recovery with a 50.

GIRLS TENNIS

Sidney, Lehman fall

The Sidney High girls tennis team dropped a 5-0 verdict to Springfield on Thursday night.

Disire Newton lost 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, Marie Butts lost 6-0, 6-0 at second singles, and Madison Frank lost a close marathon match 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). The match lasted two hours.

At first doubles, Hannah Brown and Katelyn Wheeler lost 6-4, 6-0, and at second doubles, Kathryn Saunders and Janae Drees lost 6-1, 6-12.

The junior varsity doubles teams of Naomi Riegel and Auanna Edens, and Sara Gibson and Nonoko Gunji both won their matches.

• The Lehman girls dropped a 4-1 match to Kenton Ridge on Thursday.

Super tiebreaks were used in place of third sets, and at first singles, Diana Gibson won 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.

At second singles, Sarah Gibson lost 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

At first doubles, Emma Simpson and Melanie Brunnerr lost 6-4, 6-2, and at second doubles, Allison Briggs and Ann Pennaparra lost 6-0, 6-0.

The third singles match was a forfeit.

“We’re getting better each match,” said Lehman coach Tim Ungericht. “And that’s great to see.”
