JACKSON CENTER — The Jackson Center Lady Tigers had plenty of motivation Thursday night in their latest volleyball match.

For one thing, they were playing second-place Fort Loramie, and a win would nail down an outright league title.

And for another, a win would give head coach Kim Metz 500 in her career, which has spanned 29 yards, all at Jackson Center.

The Lady Tigers responded, too, turning back a determined lady Redskins squad 3-0 on scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-18.

Metz becomes only the second Shelby County League coach to reach 500 victories, joining former Fairlawn head coach Wade Wilhelm, who won 571 games in his career.

“The girls always get up for the league opponents, so emotions were running high already,” said Metz. “And we had to fight for it. Fort Loramie came in with their guns loaded.”

The win put the No. 1-ranked Lady Tigers at 11-0 in the County and 21-0 overall heading into the regular-season finale at Houston on Tuesday.

Fort Loramie is now 8-3 in the league and 13-7 overall, and will host Middletown Fenwick Saturday and Russia Tuesday to end the regular season.
