SUNBURY — Fort Loramie senior golfer Brad Turner followed up his 76 in the first round of the Division 3 State Golf Tournament with an 81 on Saturday, to give him a two-day total of 157, good enough for seventh overall.

That earned him second-team All-Ohio honors.

Gottemoeller’s round on Saturday included a triple bogey seven on the par-4 sixth hole, two double bogeys on noles 2 and 3 and a bogey on No. 8. He birdied the No. 7 hole and the rest were pars on the first nine for a 43.

On the back nine, he had three bogeys and a double bogey, but also two birdies and an eagle on the No. 10 hole en route to a round of 38.

“Overall it was a great experience for Brad,” said his coach Brad Turner. “He played a pretty clean round on Friday with no three-putts and only one penalty stroke when a drive bounced about a foot into a hazard. After the first day he was tied for sixth.

“On Saturday he had a little bit of a rough start,” he continued. “After a par on No. 1, he four-putted the second hole for double bogey and then his drive on No. 3 went too long into a hazard and he double-bogeyed that hole, too. The wind made scoring tough on that first side and he made the turn with a 43.”

Hole 10 on Saturday was the weekend’s highlight, Turner said.

“He chipped in for eagle from about 30 yards,” the coach recalled. “The ball landed in the hole and it was awesome to see. He then birdied No. 11 and was 3-under after two holes on the back side. But he tripled No. 12 to go back to even on that side and lost the momentum he was building

The 157 final score tied him for seventh. The top 10 finishers are All-Ohio with the first five being first team and the second five being second team.

“Once he realized where he finished and that the individual champion was 2-under for the weekend, I think he was pretty content with how he performed and with the outcome,” Turner said. “The experience was great. It is a challenging course and the weather was good (no rain and plenty warm). He had a great following of family and friends – about 25 people were in his ‘gallery’ on Saturday and he handled himself very well. It was a good way for him to wrap up a good high school golf career.”
