Minster, Bremen spikers advance

NEW BREMEN — Paige Jones pounded out 26 more kills to lead the New Bremen Lady Cardinals over Crestview 3-0 in Division 4 volleyball tournament play Thursday at New Bremen.

The Lady Cardinals won 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, and the win advanced them to the Van Wert District Tournament Tuesday with a 1-3 record. They will play Tuesday in the semifinals against either Delphos St. John’s or Ottoville at 6 p.m.

Julioa Goettemoeller and Rachel Kremer added seven kills apiece for Bremen and Madison Pape had 41 kills.

• In another sectional final, Minster defeated New Knoxville 3-2. No scores or statistics were available.

• And Marion Local advanced with a 3-0 win over Lincolnview, the scores being 25-11, 25-14, 25-18.

Marion Local and Minster will meet in the second district semifinal game Tuesday at Van Wert at 7:30.

Wednesday

Anna 3, Greeneview 1

BROOKVILLE — The Anna Lady Rockets got past Greeneview in the Division 3 Sectional semifinals Wednesday night, 3-1, to advance to Saturday’s sectional championship game.

Anna lost the first game 25-17, but then came back to take the next three 25-16, 25-13, 25-21.

The win put the Lady Rockets, the No. 5 seed, at 14-10 on the season and matches them up against No. 2-seeded Waynesville in the sectional finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Brookville High School.

Krista Gehret was outstanding at the net for the Lady Rockets, finishing with 25 kills. Kennedey Glover added 11 and both Ashley Landis and Emma Meyer had seven apiece.

Lexi Wells had 48 assists and 10 digs, and Carly Becker had 17 digs.

Division 4:

Loramie 3, Mississinawa 0

ARCANUM — Fort Loramie, the No. 2 seed in the Division 4 Sectional, also advanced to the championship game on Saturday at Arcanum by easing past Mississinawa Valley 3-0 in semifinal action Wednesday night.

The scores were 25-14, 25-6, 25-11, and the win put the Lady Redskins at 16-8 on the season. They will be heavily favored in the sectional finals Saturday against 10th-seeded Covington at 3 p.m.

Caleigh Barhorst had 10 kills Maeve Hilgefort nine and Sara Stang seven for the Lady Redskins, and Sophia Albers set them uyp with 28 assists.

Taylor Ernst led the defense with 14 digs.

Southeastern 3, Botkins 1

TROY — Botkins was hoping for an upset in its first sectional tournament game, but came out on the short end of a 3-1 score against third-seeded Southeastern in semifinal action Wednesday at Troy.

The Lady Trojans, the No. 16 seed, had a first-round bye. They lost the first game 25-20, but came back to take the second set by the same score. However, Southeastern took the next two 25-11, 25-12 to end Botkins’ season at 8-15.

Sarah Bergman had 11 kills and 17 digs to lead Botkins, and Casey Woodall and Danielle Schwartz both added five. Schwartz also had 17 digs.

Jenna Pitts handed out 16 assists, and Alexis Jones led the defense with 24 digs.

Southeastern advances to play Russia Saturday in the sectional finals at Troy at 6 p.m.
