SIDNEY — The Sidney girls battled crosstown rival Lehman in tennis action Monday at Lehman, and the match went to the Lady Jackets by a 3-2 score.

Sidney won at second singles with Marie Butts 6-2, 6-0 over Allison Briggs, at third singles with Madison Frank 6-0, 6-0 over Ann Pannapara, and at second doubles with Naomi Riegel and Auanna Edens 6-0, 6-3 over Emma Simpson and Melanie Brunner.

Desire Newton lost 6-0, 6-0 to Diana Gibson at first singles and the first doubles team of Hannah Brown and Janae Drees lost 6-0, 6-2 to Sara Gibson and Alex Read.

• Sidney lost a close match Saturday to Fairborn 3-2.

Madison Frank lost 6-1, 6-1 at first singles, Desire Newton lost 6-3, 4-6 6-3 in a two-and-a-half hour second singles match, and Katelyn Wheeler lost 6-1, 6-2 at third singles.

At first doubles, Hannah Brown and Marie Butts also played for two-and-a-half hours, and won 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

And at second doubles, Naomi Riegel and Janae Drees won 6-1, 6-4.

In junior varsity play, Kathryn Saunders was victorious in singles play, and the doubles teams of Sara Gibson and Nonoko Gunji, and Lanie Shoukre and Maimouna Louzolo also won.
