The Sidney Yellow Jackets had things going their way much of the first half but had to battle in the second half to get their first victory of the season Friday night at Bellefontaine in non-league football action, 35-13.

After Sidney rolled up a 21-0 lead, the defense forced the Chieftains to punt after a three-and-out. Sidney took over deep in its own territory, and wanted more. But quarterback Jack Feazel was blindsided and lost the ball. Bellefontaine recovered, and two plays later scored on a 15-yard run.

But the Jackets responded in a big way behind sophomore Isaiah Bowser, who had 45 yards rushing in the drive. He ran 27 into Bellefontaine territory, and after Andre Gordon gained 10, Bowser went 18 into the endzone with 2:03 remaining in the half.

Sidney led 7-0 after a quarter thanks to brothers Allec and Andre Gordon. They accounted for all 75 yards in the drive, with Andre covering the last seven for a 7-0 lead.

The freshman then scrambled for 42 yards down to the 28 on Sidney’s next possession, and after Conor Beer ran for seven and a first-down at the 13, Andre Gordon swept right, reversed his field, and found the endzone for a 14-0 lead.

Sidney’s third touchdown came after Devon Santos picked up a Bellefontaine fumble and returned it 36 yards to the Bellefontaine 4. Feazel then hit Damian Duff in the endzone to make it 21-0 with 5:27 left.

However, the defense again allowed the Chieftains to drive down the field 65 yards in short order, and the second touchdown came with under 20 seconds remaining.

The defenses dominated in the second half, but Sidney struck with 7:13 left in the game when Andre Gordon hit Bowser for a 55-yard touchdown strike to make the fihnal 35-13.

The Yellow Jackets host West Carrollton Friday.

Minster shut down the Cavalier offense, but Lehman did a good job of keeping the Wildcats off the board until a field goal by Jason Schulze just before the half for a 10-0 lead.

Minster then came out and scored on its first three possessions of the third quarter to open up a 31-7 lead with 10:47 remaining in the game. Nixon scored on a 4-yard run, Jacob Stechschulte on a 5-yard run, and Bryce Schmiesing on a 14-yard pass from Nixon.
