Anna spikers get past Loramie

ANNA — The Anna Lady Rockets lost the first game to Fort Loramie but came back to take the next three in County volleyball action Thursday at Anna.

The win put Anna in a first-place tie with Jackson Center in the standings with a 3-0 mark. The Lady Rockets are now 7-2 overall.

The loss was Fort Loramie’s first in league play and leaves the defending state champions at 3-1 in the league and 6-4 overall.

“We came out a little flat in the first game, but we stayed disciplined and came back. I thought we did a good job of taking Caleigh Barhorst away on the outside, even though their other hitters really did well,” said Anna coach Kelli Zumberger.

Krista Gehret had 18 kills to lead Anna, Sarah Bettinger added nine and Kennedey Glover finished with seven.

Elizabeth Landis had a big game, with 33 assists, 13 dighs and six block-assists.

Mackenzie Wells had 26 digs, Avery Bensman 16 digs and Paige Richard 14.

For Loramie, Barhorst had nine kills, Sara Stang six and Maeve Hilgefort 5.

Taylor Ernst and Jess Stephens had 12 digs apiece and Maddi Brandewie and Aleah Frilling had nine assists each.

“Kelli has the Anna program moving in the right direction and we knew they would be tough, especially on their home court,” said Loramie coach John Rodgers.

The Anna junior varsity won 2-1, handing the Loramie JV team its first loss of the season.

JC stays perfect

JACKSON CENTER — The Jackson Center Lady Tigers kept rolling along undefeated, taking care of Fairlawn in three straight 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 in action Thursday.

The Lady Tigers are 3-0 in the County and 7-0 on the season. Fairlawn drops to 4-3 and 1-3.

Cassie Meyer had 17 kills, 17 digs and five aces for the Lady Tigers, and Payton Esser had 21 digs.

Alicia Kessler had seven kills and Pauline Meyer, Christen Ware, Camryn Hoehne and Vanessa Winner all had five kills, Kamryn Elchert had 25 assists and eight digs, and Jayel Frye added 14 assists.

For Fairlawn, Audrey Francis had 11 kills and 33 digs. Mollie Roe added nine kills and 11 digs, Chelsea Brautigam had 26 assists and 10 digs, and Paige Vondenhuevel had seven kills and 13 digs.

Jackson won the JV match in two.

Russia wins in 4

RUSSIA — The Russia Lady Raiders defeated Houston in the third County game of the night, 3-1.

The scores were 25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-18 in a close match.

For Russia, Cameo Wilson and Christina Gaerke had nine kills and Rachel Heuing had eight. Cassie Pleiman had 28 digs, Katie Swartz had 17 assists, and Whitney Pleiman finished with four aces.

For Houston, Sarah Monnier had 13 kills and Jenna Winner 11 to go with three aces and nine digs.

Sarah Monnier led in digs with 10 and Jenna Mounts added eight.

The JV game went to Russia 19-25, 25-19, 25-13.

win at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Sidney won its second in a row, defeating Springfield 3-1 in action Thursday on the road.

Sidney won the first game 25-13, lost the second 25-23, then won 27-25, 25-20 to go to 3-7 on the season. Springfield is now 2-6.

Kiama Calvert had 14 assists for the Lady Jackets, Adrienna Cook had nine kills, Amanda Thomas seven kills and three blocks and Grace Shell five kills.

The junior varsity won 25-12, 25-5, with Jada Rowland getting seven kills, Alina Kindle three aces and Maddie White 18 assists.

Minster falls in MAC

COLDWATER — Coldwater defeated Minster 3-0 in MAC volleyball action Thursday, the scores being 25-17, 25-21, 25-16.

Rosie Westerbeck had six kills and both Jordyn Heitbrink and Paige Thobe five for the Lady Wildcats. Hayley Baumer finished with 21 assists, Westerbeck had three aces, and Heitbrink led in digs with 11.

Minster is 0-2 in the MAC and 3-6 overall.

NK downs DSJ

DELPHOS — The New Knoxville Lady Rangers evened their MAC record at 1-1 and went to 5-3 overall with a 3-0 win over Delphos St. John’s. The scores were 25-16, 25-23, 25-12.

Shayna Bierlein had nine kills, Madison Lammers eight kills, Rachel Leffel seven and Jenna Schwieterman five for the Lady Rangers. Kenzie Schroer had 31 assists, eight digs and two aces, Lammers added 16 digs and two aces, Leffel had four aces, and Caitlin Lammers had five blocks. Serena Hostetter added seven digs.

The JV game went to Knoxville 25-14, 25-16.
