NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville overcame a 10-point deficit in the final quarter to send the game to overtime, then went on to pull off a 49-43 upset victory in overtime over the previously unbeaten Jackson Center Lady Tigers in non-league girls basketball Tuesday at Knoxville.

The loss leaves Jackson Center at 7-1 on the year heading to Fort Loramie Thursday.

New Knoxville is now 5-6 on the year and is in conference play Thursday at Coldwater.

Jackson Center led 32-22 after hitting the first basket of the final period, but New Knoxville went on a 7-0 run to trim the lead to three. And it was close the rest of the way.

Knoxville forced the Lady Tigers into numerous fourth-quarter turnovers and took advantage of Jackson’s inability to hit free throws — the Lady Tigers were just 2-for-10 for the game, and missed some crucial ones down the stretch in overtime trying to protect their lead.

Jackson took a 35-29 lead on a three-pointer with 2:50 remaining, but four straight Lady Ranger points made it 35-33. Then after three missed free throws by the Lady Tigers, Jenna Schwieterman tied the game with two free throws for Knoxville, and that’s how regulation ended.

Kenzie Schroer gave Knoxville a one-point lead in overtime, but Cassie Meyer hit a bucket to give Jackson a 37-36 lead. But perhaps the biggest bucket of the game followed, a three by Ashlyn Miller to make it 39-37 in favor of the Lady Rangers.

They added four more points to make it 43-37, and the Lady Tigers could get no closer than three the rest of the way.

Schroer and Miller had 14 apiece for Knoxville, and Meyer had 15 and Kamryn Elchert 11 for Jackson.

New Knoxville put on a free-throw shooting clinic. In contrast to Jackson Center’s 2-for-10, the Lady Rangers were 20-for-22.
