The Sidney Middle School wrestling team traveled to Wayne over the weekend for the Greater Western Ohio Conference junior high tournament, and out of 20 teams in the competition, the Junior Jackets finished second with 195, finishing behind only Northmont.

Two Sidney wrestlers were GWOC champions.

Aiden Tangeman won the 122-pound class by defeating Dylan Starnes of Northmont in the finals by a 9-3 score. He started out with a bye, then won 8-0 over a Miamisburg wrestler. In the semifinals, he won 11-4 over Zach Billing of Lebanon before beating Starnes in the finals.

Bryon Jones in the 245-pound weight class pinned Northmont’s Brian Jones to take home the league title. He opened with two byes, then pinned Nathan Fryer of Springboro in 2:07. In the semifinals, he pinned Booker Dylan of Trotwood in 2:32, and his pin of Jones in the finals was in a minute even.

There were also four second-place finishers, including Grant Fair at 86 pounds, Malachi Davis at 128 pounds, Beau Davis at 142 and E.J. Davis at 160.

Fair had two byes, then pinned a Vandalia wrestler in just 51 seconds. He followed that with an 11-3 major decision over Cole Yost of Springfield, but lost on a technical fall in the championship.

Davis had a bye, then pinned a Tipp City wrestler in just 40 seconds to get to the semifinals. There, he pinned a Stebbins wrestler in just 30 seconds before losing a tough 4-2 decision in the finals to a Northmont wrestler.

At 142, Davis had a bye, then pinned a Fairmont wrestler in 1:21. He then followed with a pin in just 14 seconds over a Troy opponent, then pinned Jonathan Bruder of Centerville in 3:28. He then lost on a pin to a Wayne opponent in the finals.

And at 160, E.J. Davis had a bye to start, then pinned a Fairmont opponent in just 43 seconds. He then pinned in 4:23 against Tyler Stein of Lebanon, and pinned Caleb King of West Carrollton in 1:30. He lost on a tech fall to Phil Tracey of Northmont in the championship.

At 110 pounds, Isaac Belt won four matches and placed fourth, and at 80 pounds, Jadah McMillan was fifth, winning three times.

Enrique Loanza at 98 won three matches and Julian Bargy at 150 won twice. Both placed sixth.

Kyntrel Kessler won two matches at 205 and Damion Black won one at 116, but both fell short of placing.
