Jackson beats Anna, takessole possession of first place

ANNA — Unbeaten Jackson Center took over sole possession of first place in the County volleyball standings with an impressive 3-0 victory over Anna Thursday at Anna. The scores were 25-18, 25-11, 25-18.

The Lady Tigers go to 5-0 in the County and 9-0 on the year and will host Lima Catholic Saturday. Anna entered the game tied for first but drops to 4-1 in the league and 8-3 overall with New Bremen coming to town Saturday.

“The kids are playing hard, and that’s been the key,” said Jackson coach Kim Metz.

Cassie Meyer had 12 kills and 13 digs for the Lady Tigers, Erin Metz had nine kills and four blocks, and Pauline Meyer had seven kills and four ace serves.

Kamryn Elchert handed out 20 assists and Peyton Esser finished with 12 digs.

For Anna, meanwhile, Krista Gehret had nine kills, Kennedey Glover six and Sarah Bettinger five.

Elizabeth Landis had 24 assists, 11 digs and two solo blocks, and Mackenzie Wells added 10 digs.

Jackson also won the junior varsity game, 25-22., 14-25, 25-14.

Lady Redskins

beat Houston

FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Loramie Lady Redskins cruised past Houston in County volleyball Thursday, winning 3-0 on scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-22.

The Lady Redskins go to 4-1 in the County and 7-5 overall. Houston is now 1-5 in the league and 5-6 on the year.

“I was proud of the way the team came together tonight,” said Loramie coach John Rodgers. “They are gaining confidence every day.”

Caleigh Barhorst had 18 kills and Maddi Brandewie returned from an injury to dish out 29 assists. Taylor Ernst had 1o digs and Maeve Hilgefort added four aces.

Katherine Everett had five kills for Houston.

Russia wins 3-1

over Lady Trojans

RUSSIA — Russia won at home in County play Thursday, defeating Botkins in four games. The scores were 25-16, 28-30, 25-13, 25-7.

Russia is now 2-3 in the County and 5-5 on the year. Botkins is 0-5 and 4-7.

For the winning Lady Raiders, Rachel Heuing had seven kills, Cassie Pleiman led the defense with 17 digs, Whitney Pleiman had 16 digs, Lexi Monnin had eight assists and four aces, and Laurissa Poling had three blocks.

For Botkins, Sami Vehorn had eight kills and Taylor Doseck seven, and Blake Maurer had 14 assists.
