Sindey sophomore Andre Gordon stepped in front of a pass and took it the other way for a basket with 4.4 seconds remaining to give the Yellow Jackets a stunning 69-67 upset win over Trotwood in Greater Western Ohio Conference boys basketball action Friday at Sidney.

The win put the Jackets at 10-0 in GWOC American North play and 13-3 overall heading into another conference game Tuesday night at Tipp City.

Sidney started well, leading 12-8 at one point in the first quarter. But the Rams scored the last six points of the period to lead 14-12 after one, then went on a 10-2 run to start the second quarter for a 24-14 lead.

The lead reached 13 at one point, but the Jackets cut the lead to 31-23 on a stickback by Ratez Roberts, and that’s how the half ended.

Sidney’s leading scorer, sophomore Andre Gordon, had just two points at the break. Roberts and Isaiah Bowser had eight apiece for the Jackets.

The Jackets came out and scored the first four points of the third quarter and it set the tone for much of the second half. A three-pointer late in the quarter by Jace Conrad cut the lead to 48-46, then four straight points to start the final period gave Sidney the lead.

With under a minute to go, Trotwood led 67-66, but Sidney’s Devan Rogers hit a free throw to tie the score.

Trotwood then worked for the final shot, but Gordon stepped in front of a pass and converted for the win.

Gordon went on to score 19 for the Jackets, 17 of those coming in the second half. Roberts finished with 18, 16 of those in the first three quarters, and Bowser added 10.

USV 60, Lehman 55

Lehman gave a strong Upper Scioto Valley team a run for their money, but came up just short in Northwest Central Conference play, 60-55, Friday night in the old gym at Lehman.

The loss leaves the Cavaliers 6-9 on the year going to a game at Anna Tuesday.

The Cavs were up 32-27 at the half, but the Rams outscored them 18-11 in the third quarter to take a 45-43 lead into the final period. But they could get no closer.

The Cavs’ lethal one-two punch was outstanding again, with Dylan Arnold scoring 20 and Kam Lee adding 15.

Jackson 55, Botkins 36

JACKSON CENTER — The Jackson Center Tigers trailed Botkins 15-14 after one quarter, then held the Trojans to just one point in the second quarter and went on to win 55-36 in County action Friday.

The Tigers are now 9-5 and are at New Bremen tonight.

Botkins is now 6-11 and hosts Russia Friday.

Sophomore Trent Platfoot gave the Tiger offense a big booster, hitting four three-pointers and finishing with 16 points. Brady Wildermuth again led the Tigers with 23.

Luke Bergman had 15 for Botkins.

Russia 53, Anna 43

RUSSIA — Russia was in control the entire first half, but early in the final period, the Raiders found themselves trailing the Anna Rockets.

But they responded well and went on to beat the Rockets 53-43 in a key county game Friday at Russia.

Russia remained in first place in the league at 8-1 and is now 13-3 heading to Versailles tonight.

Anna is 5-5 in the league and 9-8 overall and is at Lehman Tuesday.

Russia led 27-15 at the half but was outscored 17-8 in the third quarter. And Anna then took a brief lead in the final period.

But the Raiders got the lead back, then sank 9 of 12 free throws to put it away.

Jack Dapore had 14 and both Cole Tebbe and Dylan Cordonnier had 11 apiece for Russia.

Nathan Frilling had 13 and Wyatt Bensman 10 for Anna.

Fort Loramie 56, Triad 39

FORT LORAMIE – The Fort Loramie Redskins rolled to a 56-39 non-league win over Triad in action at Fort Loramie Friday night.

The win puts Loramie at 12-3 with a good Fort Recovery team coming to town tonight.

The Redskins jumped out to a 17-9 lead after one quarter thanks to seven points from junior Dillon Braun.

Loramie led by as many as 16 points in the second quarter, but Triad cut it to 11 at the half at 25-14. But the Redskins pulled out to a 15-point lead after three.

Braun finished with 18 points and both Tyler and Austin Siegel had 10 apiece.

HOUSTON — The Fairlawn Jets won their sixth in a row Friday, beating the Houston Wildcats 81-59 in County action at Houston.

Nathan Lessing had 25, Luke Hickman 19, Drew Brautigam 13 and Keshon Johnson 11 for Fairlawn and that was enough to offset Houston’s 12 three-pointers.

Cameron Arnold had 16 and Howie Ludwig 14 for the Wildcats.

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen got its first win of the season Friday night, edging New Knoxville 45-39 in Midwest Athletic Conference play.

Bremen is now 1-12 with Jackson Center coming to town tonight. Knoxville is 4-10 and hosts Fort Jennings tonight.

Tate Myers of New Bremen had six points after three quarter, then scored 14 in the final period for 20, including 8-for-12 at the line. Nolan Bornhorst added 10.

New Knoxville got 11 from Jonah Lageman.
