TIPP CITY — One day after cracking the Division 1 state rankings for the first time this season, the Sidney Yellow Jackets let a Tipp City team with a losing record pull off an upset Tuesday night in Greater Western Ohio Conference American North action.

The 55-44 loss, coming on the heels of a signature win Friday over Trotwood, was Sidney’s first in the North and puts them at 10-1. The Jackets are still comfortably ahead of runner-up Greenville in the North, but are now tied with Trotwood overall in the American Conference.

Sidney is back in action Friday at home against Troy.

After a slow start, it looked like the Yellow Jackets were getting things in gear, opening up a 23-15 lead on an 8-0 run with six minutes left in the second quarter. But they apparently can’t stand prosperity, because they scored just four more points the rest of the way, and that allowed the Red Devils to pull within two at the half at 27-25.

By the end of the third quarter, the Red Devils were in control at 39-33. Sidney’s Andre Gordon, the team’s leading scorer, made a basket to start the fourth quarter and it was his first of the game.

Things really got bad for the Jackets when Sidney was assessed two technical fouls, resulting in four free throws and the ejection of Allec Gordon. All of the free throws were made to give the Red Devils a 10-point lead at 45-35.

Tipp then added another bucket to make it 47-35. The Jackets got no closer than six the rest of the way.

Isaiah Bowser was the only Sidney player in double figures with 15. Andre Gordon managed just two fourth-quarter field goals and finished with four points, and third-leading scorer Ratez Roberts was held scoreless.
