Westerbeck,Wiss get topMAC honors

Minster won the Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball championship this season, and that was reflected in the voting for all-conference honors.

Minster senior Rosie Westerbeck was named the Player of the Year and her coach, Mike Wiss, the Coach of the Year after the Lady Wildcats finished the regular season with a 20-2 record, including a perfect 9-0 record in MAC action.

Westerbeck averages a team-high 13 points per game for Minster, has hit 49 percent of her field goal attempts and an impressive 82 percent on 60 for 73 from the free throw line. She also has 53 assists and a team-high 57 steals.

She was joined on the first team by Courtney Prenger, a 6-foot-2 sophomore. She averages 10.4 points per game and 4.4 rebounds.

Also named to the first team were juniors Kami McEldowney and Danielle Winner of runner-up Versailles. McEldowney was the Lady Tigers’ leading scorer at 13.6 points per game, and also led in assists with 72 and steals with 52.

Winner averaged 8.7 points and a team-high 5.0 rebounds during the regular season, which ended up with the Lady Tigers at 19-3, including 8-1 in the league.

Elizabeth Ording, just a sophomore, was named to the second team. She averaged 7.8 per game.

Also named to the first team was New Knoxville senior standout Kenzie Schroer. She averaged 15.0 points per game this season and was a 73 percent free throw shooter.

New Bremen had two players named to the second team in junior Jane Homan and freshman Macy Puthoff. Homan averaged 8.5 points and 5.7 rebounds this season, both team highs, and Puthoff averaged 7.4 with a team-high 55 assists.

Named to the honorable mention list was Lindsay Roetgerman of Minster, Kayla Bergman of New Bremen, Ashlyn Miller of New Knoxville, and Camille Watren of Versailles.
