Russia senior Maria Herron, the County Player of the Year in girls basketball this season, has been named to the All-Ohio third team, it was announced Monday.

Herron led the Lady Raiders to an outstanding regular season mark of 17-5. She averaged 13.4 points per game and was the County’s top three-point threat with 45 in 108 attempts, 41 percent. Overall, she had a shooting percentage of 48 percent, and also hit 72 percent from the free throw line on 22 of 33. In addition, she led the Lady Raiders in assists with 74 and in steals with 60.

Minster senior Rosie Westerbeck was named to the first team after leading the Lady Wildcats to the Midwest Athletic Conference championship and a 20-2 regular-season mark. She was named the MAC Player of the Year.

Westerbeck averaged a team-high 13 points per game for Minster, hit 49 percent of her field goal attempts and an impressive 82 percent on 60 for 73 from the free throw line during the regular season. She also had 53 assists and a team-high 57 steals.

Jackson Center’s Cassie Meyer, who leads her team into the Division 4 state tournament Thursday, was named to the Honorable Mention list. She led the Lady Tigers in scoring during the regular season at 10.1 per game, and also led the team in assists with 73.
