Staff report

Sidney Post 217’s American Legion baseball coach Jim Koewler said Wednesday that he has added three more games to the schedule this week in preparation for next week’s appearance in the State Legion Tournament.

Post 217, which is now 26-14 after edging Piqua 8-7 in 11 innings to win the Region 2 Tournament and advance to state, will host the Dayton Diamondback tonight at 7 p.m. at Custenborder Field.

Then on Saturday, Sidney will play a home doubleheader against Napoleon, also at Custenborder. The first game will begin at 1 p.m.

Napoleon also qualified for the state tournament by winning the Region 1 championship on Sunday. Napoleon beat Toledo 14-3 in the championship game, and Toledo was the defending state champion.

Sendoff planned

Koewler also announced that the American Legion baseball committee is planning a public sendoff for the team on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

It will be held at the American Legion on Fourth Avenue in Sidney.

The team will play its first game at state on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lancaster against the Region 5 representative. That tournament concluded Wednesday night in Chillicothe.
