Thursday volleyball roundup: Fort Loramie edges Anna

ANNA — Fort Loramie opened Shelby County Athletic League play on Thursday with a 3-2 win over Anna. The Redskins won the fifth game 15-8 to win their third consecutive match after an 0-2 start.

Anna won the first game 25-23 and fourth game 25-18, while Loramie won the second 27-25 and third 25-16.

“We were just able to keep calm and respond positively after mistakes,” Fort Loramie coach John Rodgers said. “We are still working on consistency and that will be a season-long process, but each night we make progress.”

Chole Stang had 17 kills and 26 digs for the Redskins and Marissa Meiring had 15 kills and 22 digs. Sophia Albers had 37 assists and 14 digs, Emily Austin had 18 digs and Abby Holthaus had seven kills.

Emma Meyer had 14 kills for Anna and Ashley Landis had 12. Lexi Wells had 40 assists and Carly Becker and Abby Counts each had 20 digs. Meyer also had five solo blocks and five block assists.

Loramie plays next on Saturday morning at home against New Bremen, while Anna (0-2) returns to action on Monday at Covington.

Troy 3, Sidney 0

Troy beat the Yellow Jackets 25-11, 25-14 and 25-19 in a Greater Western Ohio Conference match on Thursday.

Carrie Nuss directed the offense setting 61-of-62 for 15 assists. Alina Kindle led the front line with five kills and Arielle Snider added four. Kindle and Payton Boshears each scrapped for seven digs to lead the defense. Boshears added two aces at the serving line.

Sidney plays next on Saturday at Graham in a tri-match with Minster.

Marion Local 3, Jackson Center 0

The Flyers beat Jackson Center 25-17, 25-22 and 25-17 in a nonconference match on Thursday. Raquel Kessler had 10 kills and nine digs for the Tigers, while Caroline Frieders had six kills and 13 assists and Katie Sosby had 16 digs.

The Tigers play next on Tuesday at home against Russia.

Russia 3, Houston 0

The Raiders beat Houston 25-10, 25-20 and 25-15 on Thursday. Laurissa Poling had 12 kills for the Raiders, while Ashley Scott had seven kills, eight digs and two aces.

Jenna Cordonnier led Russia with 26 assists and also had five kills, eight digs and three aces. Whitney Pleiman had 20 digs and three aces, Cameo Wilson had five kills and Lexi Monnin had seven digs.

Sarah Monnier had eight kills and 10 digs for the Wildcats (1-2). Alyssa Kemp had 21 assists and six digs, Olivia Bowser had 11 digs and Jessica Monnier had seven kills and two blocks.

Russia (2-1) travels to Versailles on Saturday, while Houston plays next on Monday at Arcanum.

Botkins 3, Fairlawn 1

Fairlawn won the first set 25-19 but Botkins won the next three 25-8, 25-11 and 25-18 to take the match.

Danielle Schwartz had 18 digs and 14 kills for the Trojans (2-0), while Bella Ewry had 11 assists.

Lauren Dudgeon had seven kills, three blocks, and one ace for Fairlawn (2-1). Ciera Driskill had six kills, while Brittany Strunk had 10 assists and four digs. Grace Hageman had eight assists and eight digs, while Kenedee Gallimore had 12 digs.

Botkins travels to New Knoxville on Saturday, while Fairlawn hosts Fort Loramie.

New Knoxville 3, St. Marys 0

The Rangers beat St. Marys 25-17, 25-15 and 25-10. Tayler Doty had 18 kills and nine digs while Tasia Lauth had eight kills and Erin Scott had 27 digs. Carly Fledderjohann had 34 assists and Faith Homan had 23 digs.

New Knoxville (2-0) plays next on Saturday at home against Botkins.

Hardin Northern 3, Riverside 0

The Polar Bears beat Riverside 25-23, 25-19 and 25-18. Aubrie Stillings had two solo blocks and four block assists and Marissa Davis had 10 kills.

It was the first loss for Riverside (2-1). The Pirates play next on Saturday at Parkway.
