Monday Roundup: New Bremen, Anna volleyball earn nonconference wins

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen beat Botkins 25-6, 25-10 and 25-13 in a nonconference match on Monday night.

Paige Jones had 13 kills for the Cardinals. Macy Puthoff had six kills, Rachel Kremer had four kills and Julia Goetemoeller had four kills. New Bremen had 12 blocks.

Danielle Schwartz had nine kills for the Trojans (2-2).

New Bremen (3-0) hosts Versailles on Thursday in a Midwest Athletic League match. Botkins hosts Houston on Thursday in a Shelby County Athletic League match.

Anna 3, Covington 0

Anna beat Covington 25-12, 25-7 and 25-8 on Monday night in a nonconference match.

Emma Meyer had 13 kills for the Rockets while Ashley Landis had 10. Carly Becker and Ally Bertke each had two aces, and Becker had 10 digs. Lexi Wells had 26 assists and Abby Counts had 11 digs.

It was the first win of the season for Anna (1-2). The Rockets host Jackson Center in a key SCL match on Thursday.

Arcanum 3, Houston 0

Arcanum beat Houston 26-24, 25-23 and 25-20 on Monday. Alyssa Kemp had three kills, 17 assists, two aces and seven digs for Houston (1-3). Olivia Bowser had 17 digs and two aces and Sarah Monnier had eight kills, 10 digs and one assist. Amber Stangel had six kills and nine digs while Hannah Bixler had nine digs and one ace.

Girls Golf

Versailles 194, Minster 219

Lauren Durham, Jorja Pothast and Morgan Barlage each had 47 to lead Versailles over the Wildcats on Monday. Anna Groff had a 53, Morgan Heitkamp had a 60 and Cayla Batten had a 66 for the Tigers.

Hannah Koenig had a 46 to lead Minster. Taylor Homan had a 52, Kaycie Wissman had a 60, Paige Phillips had a 61 and Natalie Bensman had a 74.

Anna 220 Riverside 225

Riverside’s Dana Jones was the medalist on Monday in the match at Cherokee Hills.

Boys Golf

Anna 166, Sidney 172

Mason Platfoot led the Rockets with a 37 on Monday at Shelby Oakes. Eli Kuck had a 40, Cole Maurer had a 44 and Evan Bensman had a 45.

Jared Lindsey had a 41 for Sidney. Ben Spangler had a 43 and Kyle Noble and Spencer Karn each had 44.

Lehman 174, Upper Scioto Valley 187

Lehman improved to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the Northwest Central Conference with the victory on Monday. Tyler Lachey was the medalist with a 37. Ryan Schmidt had a 44, Cole Gilardi had a 46, Griffen West and Brandyn Sever each had 47 and Mike Rossman had a 48.

Brady Hipsher led Upper Scioto Valley with a 39.

Russia 199, Fairlawn 214

Russia’s Jack Dapore was the medalist with a 40.

Riverside 179, Ridgemont 225

Trey Lane was the medalist with a 39 to lead the Pirates in a win over Ridgemont on Monday. James Hudson had a 44, Jason Yoder had a 45 and John Zumberger had a 51.

Lyndan Roaf led Ridgemont with a 49.

Sidney 177, Houston 189

Jared Lindsey had a 41 to lead the Yelllow Jackets over Houston on Friday. Kyle Noble had a 42, Mitchell Larger had a 46, Ben Spangler and Spencer Karn each had 48 and Patrick McClain had a 56.

Cameron Via had a 45 for Houston. Bryan Funk had a 46, Jon Steiner had a 47 and Collin Walker had a 51.

Girls Tennis

Sidney 4, Lehman 1

Sidney improved to 5-5 with a win over Lehman (0-6) on Monday. Sidney’s Hailey New beat Lehman’s Claire Larger 6-2, lost 7-5 and won 6-1. Lehman’s Sarah Gibson beat Sidney’s Naomi Riegal 6-1 and 6-1, while Sidney’s Madison Franke beat Lehman’s Melanie Brunner 6-2 and 6-4.

The Yellow Jackets won both doubles. Caroline Gallimore and Mara Hecht beat Alex Read and Angela Brunner 6-3 and 7-5, while Auanna Edens and Zoey Crist beat Ann Pennaparra and Kiera Burns 6-3 and 6-1.

“Kudos to Sidney. …We beat them in our preseason scrimmage and they reversed that tonight,” Lehman coach Tim Ungericht said. “Our kids continue to fight hard. Claire had a nice comeback from 5-4 down in the second set to push it to a third set, and it’s the best match Melanie has played at third singles the whole season. Sarah had a convincing win against a good player at second singles, and first doubles came back from 5-2 down to almost get the second set.”
