Monday roundup: Sidney volleyball beats Bellefontaine to even record

SIDNEY — Sidney’s girls volleyball team won its fifth consecutive match on Monday night to move to .500 on the season. The Yellow Jackets beat Bellefontaine 25-18, 25-16 and 25-13 to improve to 5-5 overall.

Payton Boshears drilled eight aces, serving 21-of-22 and Alina Kindle added six. Emily Tolbert led the front line with eight kills and Arielle Snider was close behind with seven. Snider recorded three block assists and two solo blocks and Carrie Nuss added an assist and solo block.

Nuss directed the offense, setting 71-of-72 for 26 assists. Allie Herrick led the defense with 15 digs and Boshears scrapped for 11.

Sidney didn’t win a set in its first four matches of the season. After a close loss to Piqua on Aug. 29, the Yellow Jackets have rattled off five wins, including three against Greater Western Ohio Conference opponents.

Sidney hosted Xenia in a GWOC crossover match on Tuesday and plays next on Saturday in a tri-match with Houston and Indian Lake at Sidney Middle School.

Ottoville 3, New Knoxville 1

New Knoxville won the first game on Monday 25-20 but lost the next three 25-16, 25-19 and 31-29.

Tasia Lauth had 20 kills for the Rangers. Tayler Doty had 16 kills and 27 digs, while Caitlin Lammers had 11 kills and two solo blocks. Carly Fledderjohann had 58 assists, and Faith Homan had 20 digs.

New Knoxville (4-2, 1-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) plays next on Thursday at home against Delphos St. John’s.

Girls Soccer

Anna 12, Greenville 0

The Rockets scored early and often in a nonconference win on Monday. Taylor Noll had four goals and Taylor Kauffmann had two goals for Anna. Emily Albers, Rylie Edwards, Adrienne Endsley, Breonna Tribbett, Brielle Collier and Ashlynn McCarty all had one goal each.

Abby Gaydosh and Kauffmann had two assists each. Amber Stewart and Claire Bensman each had one assist.

Anna (6-0, 4-0 Western Ohio Soccer League) plays next on Thursday at Allen East in a WOSL match.

Boys Soccer

Lima Central Catholic 1, New Knoxville 0

Central Catholic scored a goal in the second half to earn the win on Monday. The Rangers had seven shots on goal in the game while Central Catholic had eight. Nathan Merges had seven saves for the Rangers.

New Knoxville (2-3, 2-2 WOSL) plays next on Thursday at Botkins in WOSL action.

Boys Golf

Fort Loramie 174, Milton-Union 187

Zach Pleiman had the lowest score for Loramie with a 41 on Monday at Homestead Golf Course.

Craig Eilerman had a 43 and Shea Swick and Clay Eilerman each had 45 to finish the Redskins’ scoring. Michael Puthoff and Eli Rosengarten each had 46.

Fort Loramie plays next on Thursday morning at Shelby Oaks in the Shelby County Athletic League tournament.

Russia 167, Piqua 185

Will Sherman was the medalist in Monday’s match at Echo Hills Golf Course with a 37.

Jack Dapore had a 42, and Evan Coverstone and Drew Sherman each had 44 to finish the Raiders’ scoring. Brandon Koverman had a 49 and Christian Stueve had a 57.

Russia plays next on Thursday at the SCAL tournament.

Lehman Catholic 168, Riverside 191

Riverside’s Trey Lane was the medalist on Monday with a 39, but Lehman won the match by over 20 strokes.

Tyler Lachey had a 41 for the Cavaliers, while Ryan Schmidt had a 40, Cole Gilardi had a 43 and Mike Rossman had a 44.

James Hudson and John Zumberger each had 49 for the Pirates. Jason Yoder had a 54.

Lehman plays again on Thursday against Piqua at Shelby Oaks.

Versailles 175, Coldwater 185

Versailles’ Will Eversole was the medalist on Monday at the Mercer County Elks as the Tigers picked up a MAC win.

Connor VanSkyock had a 42, while PJ Platfoot had a 44 and Austin Pleiman and Alex Keiser had 48. Ethan Kremer had a 53 for Versailles.

Caden Seitz had the low score for Coldwater with a 44.

Versailles play next on Thursday at home against Delphos St. John’s.

Botkins 194, Waynesfield-Goshen 201

Nick Fischio was the medalist with a 35 in Monday’s match at Shelby Oaks Golf Course. Alex Bajwa had a 49 for the Trojans, while Anthony Opperman had a 51 and Parker Geis has a 59.

Jordan Maxwell had the lowest score for Waynesfield-Goshen with a 201.

Botkins plays next at the SCAL tournament on Thursday.

New Knoxville 188, Marion Local 219

Ray Newton had the low score on Monday for the Rangers with a 44 and Nate Tinnerman had a 46.

The Rangers play again on Thursday at Fort Recovery in a MAC match.

Girls Golf

Versailles 185, Coldwater 254

Lauren Durham was the medalist for the Tigers in a MAC win on Monday at Mercer County Elks. Jorja Pothast and Morgan Heitkamp each had 46 and Morgan Barlage had a 49 to finish Versailles’ scoring. Anna Groff also had a 53 and Ali Moran had a 71.

Emma Eckstein had the lowest score for the Cavaliers with a 57.

Versailles plays next on Thursday at home against Delphos St. John’s.
