7th straight win
for Sidney boys
WAPAKONETA — The streak continues for the Sidney High boys soccer team, which notched its seventh win in a row Monday night with a 2-1 win over Wapakoneta in non-league action.
The win put the Jackets at 11-2-2 on the year heading to Greenville last night.
“Tonight was a very gritty performance,” said Sidney coach Daniel Wicks. “We came out of the gate very slow and Wapak took a deserved 1-0 lead at halftime.
“The sign of a good team is to pick up a win when you don’t necessarily deserve it,” he continued. “We picked up our play in the second half and took advantage of two opportunities. Our hero tonight was senior goalkeeper Ben Snavley. Ben has been an outstanding performer all season but tonight he shined, making several incredible saves. With under two minutes left in the game Wapak was awarded a penalty kick, which Snavley saved to secure the win. Things are going well for us, and it couldn’t come at a better time.”
Austin Epperly and Preston Crall scored the goals for the Yellow Jackets, and Luke Rees and Ben McClain provided the assists.
Wapak outshot the Jackets 13-11, but Sidney had one more shot on target (7-6) than the Redskins.
Snavley finished with six saves.
