Botkins boys wrap up WOSL title

BOTKINS — The Botkins boys soccer team posted a 2-0 victory Tuesday night over visiting Lima Temple Christian in a game to determine the champion of the Western Ohio Soccer League.

The Trojans took the title with a final 6-1 mark to 5-1-1 for Lima Temple.

“It was a great overall team effort from everyone,” said Botkins coach Kevin Lynch. “It was a hard-fought win.”

Both Trojan goals came from Nolan Greve, with Joe Shuga assisting on one of the goals.

Botkins opens tournament play Oct. 24 at Newton.

Final WOSL standings — 1. Botkins 6-1-0, 2. Lima Temple Christian 5-1-1, 3. (tie) Lehman 4-3-0, Lima Catholic 3-1-3, 5. Fairlawn 3-2-2, 6. Lincolnview 2-3-2, 7. Spencerville 1-6-0, 8. New Knoxville 0-7-0.

Sidney blanks

Greenville 3-0

GREENVILLE — The Sidney High boys soccer team closed out regular-season play with eight consecutive victories, the latest coming Tuesday night at Greenville by a 3-0 score.

The Jackets finished 4-1-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference North, good enough for runner-up behind Vandalia. They are back in action next Tuesday at home against Bellefontaine in Division 1 sectional action.

“It was tough playing two away games on back to back nights, especially after a very physical and emotional game on Monday night (Wapak),” said Sidney coach Daniel Wicks. “We were able to rotate a lot of players in tonight’s match, and came away with a comfortable win in the end. Now it’s time to really get focused on the tournament.”

Kyle Mann had two goals for the Jackets and Luke Rees one. Mann, Rees and Ben McClain had assists, and goalie Ian Humphrey had three saves in posting the shutout.

Sidney finishes regular-season play with a 12-2-2 record.

Final GWOC North standings — 1. Vandalia 5-0-0 (14-1-0), 2. Sidney 4-1-0 (12-2-2), 3. Troy 3-2-0 (11-4-0), 4. (tie) Greenville 1-3-1 (7-8-1), Piqua 1-3-1 (6-8-2), 6. Trotwood 0-5-0 (0-14-0).

Lehman tops JC

Lehman blanked Jackson Center 3-0 in action Tuesday at Lehman, winning their second in a row to go to 5-10.

The Cavs close regular-season play Saturday at West Milton.

Lehman outshot the Tigers 39-10, but led just 1-0 at the half.

Jake Emrick had two goals, giving him a team-high eight on the year. Trey Kerrigan scored the other goal, and assists came from Kerrigan, Jacob Schmiesing and Alex Wiseman.

Jackson ends regular-season play at 6-7-1 and plays at Dayton Stivers in sectional action on Tuesday.

Goalie Trevor Elliott had 13 saves for the Tigers.

Lady Cavs finish

perfect in league

DELPHOS — Lehman made the long trek to Delphos St. John’s Tuesday and made it worthwhile with a 4-0 win.

The victory gave the Lady Cavs a final mark of 6-0-0 in the Western Ohio Soccer League. They are now 10-4-1 on the season and host Lima Bath Saturday before embarking on the tournament trail.

Madison Cline had a big game for the Lady Cavs, scoring two goals and assisting on another. Samantha Edwards had a goal and two assists, and Sarah Fuller had a goal.
