Late touchdown, interception dooms Anna against Madison

Anna rallied late at Middletown Madison on Friday and took a lead in the fourth quarter of a Division V, Region 20 playoff game on Friday night but couldn’t hold on to win.

Cameron Svarda scored a touchdown with 56 seconds left to give Madison a 14-10 lead. The Rockets had taken the lead about 90 seconds earlier on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Travis Meyer to Austin Fogt.

Madison got an interception on Anna’s last drive to secure the victory.

Anna finished 7-4 overall, which is its best record since 2010.

The Rockets will lose 14 seniors to graduation, including four players who were first team all-Midwest Athletic Conference: Wyatt Bensman, Caleb Kauffman, Abe Wildermuth and Fogt.

Robert Flynn hit a 32-yard field goal with about seven minutes left in the first quarter to give Anna a 3-0 lead. Tyler Baumgartner ran for a 4-yard touchdown with about seven minutes left in the second to give Madison a 7-3 lead.
