Jackson, Lehman,Minster all advancein sectional volleyball

TROY — Top-seeded Jackson Center rolled to another easy victory in Division 4 Sectional volleyball play at Troy, beating Bradford 3-0 Tueaday night in semifinal play.

The Lady Tigers, now 23-1 on the season, won 25-7, 25-4, 25-9.

They will now meet the winner of the Russia-Houston game on Saturday at 4 p.m. for the right to advance to the district tournament on Oct. 31.

• TIPP CITY — Lehman also advanced in sectional play, beating Mississinawa 3-0 in D-4 action at Tipp City.

The scores were 25-9, 25-11, 25-14 and the win put the Lady Cavs at 16-7 on the season. They also advance to the sectional semifinals on Thursday against Tri Village at 6 p.m. It should be another easy win for the Lady Cavs, who are seeded third. Tri Village is the No. 22 seed.

Sidney Chapman had 18 kills for Lehman. Madeline Smith had 26 assists and five aces, and Madison Hussey had 20 digs.

• MINSTER — Minster opened D-4 sectional play at home against Spencerville Tuesday and won 3-0, the scores being 25-5, 25-1, 25-8.

Minster, now 14-9, will next play either Delphos St. John’s or Lima Temple Christian Thursday at home at 6:30.

Spencerville had trouble with Minster’s serve. The Lady Wildcats finished with 26 aces, led by Hayley Baumer with 10 and Jordan Heitbrink with seven. She also had seven kills.

CENTERVILLE — The Sidney Lady Jackets outlasted Springfield in five games Monday night in Division 1 Sectional volleyball action at Centerville.

The scores were 25-20, 19-25, 25-15, 25-27 and 16-14.

The win not only advanced the Lady Jackets to the sectional semifinals, but it also snapped a lengthy drought when it came to tournament victories. It was Sidney’s first tournament volleyball win since 2003.

Amanda Thomas had 13 kills and 10 digs for Sidney, and Grace Shell 11 kills and 10 digs. Adrienna Cook had 10 kills and Ally Spangler seven kills.

Carrie Nuss set them all up, finishing with 37 assists, and Thomas also had three solo blocks.

The defense was led by McKenzie Lambdin with 15 digs and Nuss with 13. Lambdin also served four aces and Kiana Calvert two.

Sidney is now 10-13 and faces a big challenge Thursday in the semifinals, taking on the 22-0 Troy Lady Trojans. The Lady Jackets lost twice to Troy this season, both by 3-0 scores.

TIPP CITY — Fort Loramie opened Division 4 Sectional volleyball play Monday night at Tipp City, and won easily to advance to a second-round game Wednesday against Troy Christian.

The Lady Redskins, the defending D-4 state champions, won 25-8, 25-4, 25-7 over Dayton Jefferson top raise their overall record to 15-8.

Sara Stang led with seven kills, Maeve Hilgefort had six and Caleigh Barhorst, Brooke Ruhenkamp and Sophia Albers had five apiece.

Maddie Brandewie had nine assists.

CA wins tourney

SIDNEY — Christian Academy hosted the first round of the Ohio Christian Schools Athletic Association tournament and beat Mansfield Christian 3-1.

Christian Academy lost the first game 25-22, but came back to take the necxt three 25-19, 25-20, 25-9 to advance to the regional finals.

Summer Inman had nine kills and Alexis Boersman six for the winners. Micah Carter added five. Hannah Michael had nine service points in the fourth set.

Christian Academy is now 13-7 on the season.

Russia stats

TROY — In Russia’s win over Newton Saturday in first-round action, Christina Gaerke had 16 kills and six solo blocks, Cameo Wilson had 10 kills, Cassie Pleiman moved to within just two digs of a single-season school record with 28, and Katie Swartz had 22 assists and three aces. Laurissa Poling added four solo blocks.
